I have been watching the expired domain name "Shed.net". The domain was set to go to auction at SnapNames.com on January 10, 2008. That date as come and gone, and no auction ever taken place. After looking into the whois, the domain expired and a couple days later, the new registrant became Register.com and still is.
Old Registrant was: Registrant: Project 87 Mark Matthews 58 Spofford Ave Warwick, RI 02888 US Email: REMOVED
New Registrant: Registrant: Registercom Domain Registrar 575 8th Avenue New York, NY 10018 US Email: domainregistrar@register.com Registrar Name….: REGISTER.COM, INC. Registrar Whois…: whois.register.com Registrar Homepage: www.register.com Domain Name: shed.net Created on…………..: Mon, Dec 07, 1998 Expires on…………..: Sat, Dec 06, 2008 Record last updated on..: Mon, Jan 07, 2008
This makes me sick that a registrar can have it’s "pick and choose" at what domains it wants to keep that have expired. If you really think about it, this domain has not went threw the normal drop process, because with an expires date of 12-06-2007 (when it expired) it should be approx 72-76 days until it would drop. It is really only 30 ish day’s into that process. So really this domain should and could still be renewed by the old owner as the domain is really only in redemption period at the latest. Since the auction houses are partnered up registrars, they seem to have there own drop process now! Which is also something that I think is Wrong!
