As we know from the past, when Oversee.net purchased SnapNames.com, Network Solutions used the “change of ownership” clause to get out of it’s contract with SnapNames and headout on there own to create NameJet.com .
Well, as I’m sure you heard, ICANN is putting it’s foot down on domain tasting as we know it and many say the new laws will kill domain tasting. If that is true, SnapNames will be another HUGE loser again!
If you do not know this already, then you can say DotWeekly let out a little secret. SnapNames technically “tastes” domains every single day and runs them threw what they consider there Live Auctions or also known as “In Auction”. These auctions are set up to run 3 days. What do they do with all the ones that do not get bids? They redrop them with in the AGP and get there money back. Just a different form of tasting if you ask me!
On a normal day, they are redropping in the range of 20,000 to 30,000 domain names. That only covers the .com and .net’s since they stopped having .org’s when they added the “new fee”.Â
So not only did they lose one of the best providers of expiring domain names, they are now going to have a very hard time filling up the “In Auction” section with so many domain names. In return, eNom is not going to be able to pick up 95% of the domains that they grab when SnapNames redropped the in auction domains that didn’t sell. Now that’s killing 2 birds with one stone, in more ways then one!
