What if? or When?

The other day I took a trip to the dentist and during the small chat, he asked me what my profession was.  I could see where this was going, because when I tell people what I do, they always react the same way… Ohhhh!

The Ohhhh basically means, "What the hell is a Domain Broker"? So, like always, I start explaining that I buy domain names, sell them, hold many for investment purposes and so on. I make sure to express that domain names are Rare and the popularity of the .com extension. The next thing to bring up for me, are how many people search for an exact terms each day and this is not just from a small city, it is World Wide with a world population of 6 Billion people.

I throw out some quick  examples on how and what makes domain names valuable. I think the corner store story, is the best and it was very fitting while talking to this business man. I said, ok, picture it this way. We live in a city of 130,000 people. How many people walk thru your door in a day. He said about 15-20. Which I also made it clear, that’s Monday-Friday 7am to 5pm.

So I mentioned that about 200 people per day type in "Sedation Dentistry" 1 in 6 of those people add the .com and do direct navigation. This comes out to be 33 unique’s, just threw direct navigation a day. Then I explained that search engines search for the most relevant content for a search term and place those sites the highest that match the user’s search term. Having an exact match with your domain name is a major plus, as I explained.

Now taking those 200 per day exact searches, x’s 30 is 6,000 people a month, x’s 12 months is 72,000 people that can be hitting your site and this is direct traffic & search engine traffic if done correctly, which will convert, because it’s something they are exactly looking for! Then I explained that only ONE PERSON can have the domain SedationDentistry.com and that really made him interested.

I said, well it doesn’t stop there. Think of marketing. If you are advertising, doesn’t it just scream "you mean business" with the Exact Match domain name of what you do. At this point again, I reminded him that only one person can have the domain SedationDentistry.com and that only that owner would have the chance to be "known" for it. He was even more excited at this point…

Now with Sedation Dentistry, it would not be the easiest to make money online he thought, as doing dentistry online does not happen and there are not really many "products" to sell.

I had two words for him "Targeted Traffic". I said, even if you are just providing information, you can also have a directory of sedation dentist (which I explained he could charge for, as it’s a form of advertising) maybe a forum so people interested in the procedure can chat and keep providing "fresh content". Now as the site owner, you approach a company like Crest or any dental care product company, they would Jump at the chance to advertise on this site! Why? 100% Targeted Traffic. I also explained Affiliate Links for products and several other options the site owner has.

Now, I do not own SedationDentistry.com, but I sure wish I did right now, because I could have an easy sale. My point about this article is, the more the public is educated on the value of domain names, the more the domain market will bloom. I do not see one specific way of getting the word out, but we all can surely help, by bringing up domain names any chance we can.

Now the reason I titled this What if? and When?, is because "what if" everybody had a clue how valuable domain names are and "When" people do finally get it, the prices will REALLY go high!

Now get the word out……… Domain Names are rare, valuable assets!
