The dream of making it big!

Archived in the category: Domain Help

In the domain name industry, being a "big shot" is not an easy thing to do. Being a big shot in any industry is not easy to do and is getting harder and harder by the day, but if you want to be a big shot, You Can and you have a much better shot at doing so in the domain industry!

I have always dreamed of "making it big" one day and I work very hard at it every single day. Have I made it yet or become a "Big Shot" now? Maybe to some, but personally, I do not feel I have reached that mark. The one positive and most valuable asset that I hold, is The Dream. Without it, I wouldn’t be working towards anything else then providing for my family and getting threw the daily grind.

When I first started domaining, I was like, man this is easy! I could buy a domain for $7 and later that day sell the domain for $30. Do that with 5 domains in a day, and I wasn’t rich, but I never had to leave the house, worked my own hours and my $35 daily investment turned into $115 daily profit. $3,400 a month is not bad and I was just learning. I then started buying a little more valuable domains. Instead of $7 hand registrations, I hit the aftermarket and was using my $115 daily profit and reinvest that to domains that I would hold a little longer. When I found a buyer, I was selling for $500 or even $1,000. By a little longer, I mean a couple days.

At this point, I was starting to make about $400 a day and not my normal $115. So within about a year, I went from making $115 a day, to $400 a day. Now, I wouldn’t all ways make this profit daily, but over a 30 day period, that’s what it would equal, so I advise you not to look at your numbers Daily, but Monthly.

So I started thinking….. If I was still working at Proctor & Gamble making Charmin toilet paper, on a production floor that averaged 110 degrees, working 12 hour rotating shifts, I would still be making about the same amount of money, as when I left. We got 3% raises YEARLY and that was it. I wouldn’t even have the Chance to make it big if I never made the decision to leave a job everybody around me thought I was crazy to leave, but I had a dream to chase and that was the part they didn’t understand.

Jump ahead 2.5 years into my process of chasing My Dream and Making it big. I am sitting in a great position with tons of Daily chances of "make it big" and that is all because I took a big chance and left a position which many people said I was crazy to leave! The reason behind taking this chance is because I had a Dream to chase and I noticed I was doing something that would not ALLOW me to achive it. Going from the days of only hand registering domain names, to be in a position of "Hold and Wait" with my domain name assets, is a great one and will help me reach my goal of Making It Big!

I will still have to work hard every single day, stay up with the daily changes in the domain industry and keep making wise decisions and the biggest thing of all….. Keep chasing my Dream!

Jamie:

I tend to read your blog daily or whenever you post because of your willingness to share helpful and insightful information. Today’s post is very inspirational, and one that I can identify with wholeheartedly. While I did not take the Pepsi Plunge to pursue striking it rich in the domaining industry. I do share in your “Keep chasing [the] Dream” philosophy. Thanks for a very informative and educational blog. As a newby, your advice has been quite helpful.

YES! This is the same boat I want to be in. Im working 4 10 hour shifts a week and would right now LOVE $110 a day…then like you did move up. This + my work income would be GREAT!

I love this story and all the best to you and the rest out there who want the same

Awesome post. I started off making $1/month domaining…

Friends and family were laughing their asses off since I continued to pursue “working online.”

Fast forward 2 years and about about 50 lunches paid by me for friends/family: I’m currently helping three friends start their own blogs. This is their little leap into “my world.”
