Just interesting info….NetSol

So you are the oldest registrar there is and have been in business for 14 years. Your brand is well known and when somebody see’s NetworkSolutions.com they know what it is. If you see a domain name like www.Renew-Today.com it’s likely you wouldn’t visit the link, no matter who sent you it via email.

So who owns Renew-Today.com? Network Solutions does. How do they use this domain? They use it in an email you get, when a domain name is expired and you need to renew it or the domain goes to auction at NameJet.com . Why not use a direct link of your business name to renew? Like NetworkSolutions.com? I know they can use a specific domain to track how many people use it, but they could use a sub-domain as well. Like Renew.NetworkSolutions.com!

Again, why they do this, who knows! Pretty dumb if you ask me, unless they are "trying" to get you to not renew….

So let’s say the owner doesn’t renew the domain, it goes up for auction at NameJet.com . Let’s say the owner doesn’t use the email address that was listed on file at NetSol, or the email address is dead OR if the email address is the same as the domain name! This last one is the most important, because TONS of domain names use an email address that is the domain.

The first thing that happens when a domain name "expires" at NetSol, the domain name servers change to PendingRenewalDeletion.com . So your email will no longer work, no matter what your dns was set to, because it’s now changed automatically. So now any Renewal Notices NetSol "Tries" to send you at this point, you will NOT get.

It is important to point out, that in NetSol’s TOS, it does explain the dns change. It also explains in the same section (14) that NetSol has the right to "Direct Transfer" (sell) this expired domain,  "and In the event we are able to identify such a third party (the "Direct Transfer Customer") and effectuate such a Direct Transfer, we will notify you via email after the transaction is completed ("Direct Transfer Notification"). Additionally, you will be eligible to receive a portion of the funds received by us as a result of a Direct Transfer of the domain name, as follows: (i) if you registered the domain name with Network Solutions directly through our Web site, you will be eligible to receive twenty percent (20%) of the Net Proceeds received by us from our third party vendor as a result of a Direct Transfer; and (ii) if you registered the domain name with Network Solutions through a third party agent (such as your ISP, for example), you will be eligible to receive fifteen percent (15%) of the Net Proceeds received by us from our third party vendor as a result of a Direct Transfer."

So again, you will not get the email, nor will you get the 20% or 15% of the funds collected from the sale of the domain. Because you will not get the email to Verify Your info….(or in their words) "  You agree that we shall have no obligation to pay you, and you shall have no right to receive, any percentage of the Net Proceeds unless, within ninety (90) days after the date of our Direct Transfer Notification, you first provide us with the name, address and related information requested by us (including, but not limited to, a Form W-9, if applicable) in our Direct Transfer Notification."

Why ONLY email, they can’t CALL the registrant on the phone? It’s not like they didn’t profit enough from the sale of the domain.

How often does this happen? VERY. It’s one of the main reasons domain names expire at NetSol. Either a dead email address or the domain is the same as the domain that is expiring….. Now I am not saying this is wrong or right, but I think they could make a little more effort to atleast provide the owner with the 20% of the sale and also make it more clear on their renewal emails and use a NetworkSolutions.com link for renewal….

I have an account with Network Solutions. I need to pay for the newal of my doman name. It was written on my bill to pay on line at Rewnew-Today.com. Is this the place that I need to pay for the newal?

DO NOT do that. If that’s the domain that was in the email, it’s a fraud, as that domain is Available. It is always best to go directly to http://www.NetworkSolutions.com and log in to your account to renew or register a domain name. Unless you mis-typed, as Network Solutions does use Renew-Today.com for what ever reason, but you have typed Rewnew-Today.com, with an extra W in the domain.
