Well, I am back after my 6+ hours in the dental chair yesterday. A bit sore, druged
and redruged, but ready for a new day. The good thing about being gone for a full day, was when I was able to get back on the PC. Over 200 emails with 5 offers on domain names, made for a busy morning.
Looking threw my 5 offers that I got on different domains, it was pretty interesting. Number one, all the offers come from different places that I have domain names either parked, developed or listed with. The reason that was interesting to me was because of the information you can obtain from the person who sent the offer and how each one is different.
Two of the offers were threw Sedo.com which I have some of my domain names listed with. The problem about those offers, is you get an email from Sedo telling you that somebody had made an offer on your domain name. Once at Sedo, you head to Offers Recieved and you see the price of the offer. That’s it really. You can’t tell if it’s from a big company, an average guy, an orginization etc. No real info about the buyer, which puts you as a seller at a disadvantage.
Another one was from a site that I have developed, so I was glad to put that extra Contact Tab, with the wording "This domain name may be for sale" and I put a specific email address that nobody else would know. One, I know it’s a real offer and secondly, the wording MAY be for sale, is very important and could save you some legal hassel in the long run. So if you have mini sites or a domain you May sell, it doesn’t hurt to set up a little system like that.
The fourth offer came in threw Afternic.com, another listing service I have a domain with. The information provided with that email was about as good as the Sedo email. No extra info to help me with my offer price back.
The final email was from a parked domain that I have with Fabulous.com . When somebody contacts you from a domain you have parked, is already a great sign, as they most likely directly went to the domain. It is also nice because Fabulous.com contact email gives you Great info from the contact. With this info, you can investigate and find who the buyer is!
In the email from Fabulous, there is: Domain Name, Full Name, Email Address, Offer Price and Comment. Now all those can be fake or bs info, but the last important info provided in the email, is the IP ADDRESS where the offer came from. That is your key to your information, which can help tell you along in your selling process. It is important to use All the information to help guide you, but I always think the IP is the most important. By using this (on the right side, put in the ip address and click find location) you can check the IP Location. If it’s from a company, it will tell you.
From the 5 emails that I got, the last one provided me with the most important and helpful info. I discovered with the info, that this email came from a Very Large company and let me "Learn More" about the buyer. This information can Really help you decide an asking price for your domain, so you do not sell to cheap. It is also likely that you might see the reason Why they want your domain with this extra investigating.
Always investigate the offers you get on a domain name and find out who the buyer is.
Have tools in place to get that information. That might mean parking your domain with a certain company or creating your own page with tools in place.
