Domain locked at NetSol? Here is a tip!

Archived in the category: Domain Help, Domain News

After yesterday’s rant about Network Solutions and them locking domains for no reason, they are still locking domains because of a whois email change (update). As classified by ICANN, a registrar can NOT lock your domain name and prevent a transfer to another registrar because of this update.

A reader of DotWeekly.com emailed me and pointed out a process that he used after a failed transfer due to a random lock on his domain and had success in the process and Quick as well.

You will want to use BOTH of these email address.

 TO: Registrar@networksolutions.com

CC: registrar-info@icann.org
Fell free to use this email as a template if you wish, but this is the exact one used.

Thank you again to my reader for the heads up on this process and I hope it can help some of you if you have a locked domain at NSI that after a whois update.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Please be advised that per the ICANN advisory dated April 3 2008 (Registrar Advisory Concerning the Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy (http://icann.org/announcements/advisory-03apr08.htm ) you are not allowed to put any hold or lock on a domain name solely for WHOIS changes (see 2. A registrant change to Whois information is not a valid reason to deny a transfer request.).

Please immediately remove any lock on this domain and allow a transfer out.

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards,
Your Name

A supervisor at NSI will be contacted from ICANN and you should get a reply within 24 hours or less from NSI. No 3 days like when you use the normal NSI email process, then the 3 more days to unlock. This will also bring it to ICANN’s attention that NSI is still locking domains on whois updates. In your email reply from NSI, it should be telling you your lock has been removed and you should be all set.
