Registrars keeping expired domain names. Post Them

Archived in the category: Domain News

Ok, I have I created this post to keep Track of domain names that Expire, but the registrar KEEPS the domain name. If you have been watching a domain name and it expires, but the registrar KEEPS the domain and does not send it to auction, please post it here in the comment section.

I want to keep a running public tab on these domains.

Please provide as much PROOF as you can that the registrar just kept the domain after it expired. Via screen shots etc.

I will start off with one….

Shed.net

Register.com had Kept this domain name. It had expired and they Never sent it to auction. The domain does not resolve and they even were able to some how change the whois history to show Them as the owner dating back until 5-4-2004 but as whois shows a screenshot of the Band, Shed owned it as of 6-9-2006 via the screen capture on whois.

Again, please make sure you have valid proof that the registrar has kept the domain. I think this is very fraudulent and a registrar should not be able to obtain a domain name in this matter. They should have to win the domain in auction or purchase the domain from the old owner, just like you and I would have to.

I agree with you Jamie, but the Registrar sometimes comes up with some stories like “we have been holding the name for our customers” lol, you know it.
NetSol is doing it and I really don`t like it.
Is there any rule that allows them to control of domains instead of letting them expire? They obviously want to cut off the competitors (SnapNames, Pool) and pass their Premium names to NameJet so they are sure to make the money that should names drop, they would risk to lose them.
How can the ICANN allow this?

With a mass, we can clearly bring it to ICANN’s attention and with proof that registrars are keeping these domains. Many times, in registrars TOS, they put in some wording to cover this, but there is always a way to bring attention to this problem and make it clear that we do not like it.

I don’t have proof, but I can say with certainty that Register.com kept VeryBig.com. I wanted that domain and had it backordered on SnapNames but it never dropped. Instead, Register.com kept it.

Yes, this one is For Sure as well! It expired 1-11-2008. http://www.dotweekly.com/wp-content/uploads/VeryBigSS1.PNG The auction would of been about 2 months ago from now (Feb 2008) and clearly Register.com still owns it. http://www.dotweekly.com/wp-content/uploads/VeryBigss2.PNG

A wonderful LLL.com, that from Mr John Snow went straight to NETSOL pockets:

FTN.com

Another 3 letters .com (that should have dropped in 2006 !!!!) is:

SNQ.com

And I could go on and on…they just bypass the system to gain money. But who is going to control them? Who is going to punish them?
