When I do my off the wall domain stats, I have been watching Godaddy spank the other domain name registrars and I make sure to write about it. A milestone has been reached, as Godaddy.com now controls over 25 Million domain names! To be exact with yesterday’s stats, 25,047,401 domain names!
The second closest registrar is eNom with 8,677,505. So by the numbers, Godaddy has nearly 3 x’s more domain names under control then the second leading domain registrar eNom. Very impressive. This also does not include the 3,042,733 domain names Godaddy’s sister company Wild West Domains also has under it’s management. Adding WWD’s domains gives a grand total of 28,090,134 domain names.
Why do I think Godaddy does so well? It’s hard to find a starting place…. but I think I will start with Advertising! They do it and and Go Big while doing it. The Super Bowl, Nascar, IndyCar, Motorcycle racing and more. The advertising just shows the power of it, since I never see advertising for eNom, Moniker, NetSol etc. So the advertising market is clearly Godaddy’s and it doesn’t seem that any other of the big boy’s want to play!

Pricing! Though Godaddy spends Tens of Millions of dollars in advertising each year, their prices always seem to be the lowest. This works for any domain buyer no matter if you are a Newbie or a seasoned domainer. Godaddy does focus on the Newbie buyers, but they are also the ones that will use Hosting, need web sites built and use SSL certs etc which make Godaddy even more money then the domain names they sell.
Customer Service! If the functions of the web site are not easy enough, you can call 24/7 and get some help! Everytime that I have ever needed to place a call, my question was answered.
Bob Parsons! Bob sure seems to be a cool owner. He’s very public and open and shows this via his video blog! His blog get’s a good amount of traffic with an est. of around 54,000 visitors a month. He wears jeans and a t-shirt, has an earring, drives motorcycles and just seems like a normal guy. I think people like this and can relate to him. One might not think it, but I think it makes a difference and can help in gaining a customer or two.
The Girls! I do not need to say much on this one, but considering the domain industry is about 85% + males, the Godaddy Girls are an attraction and help sell products.
