Well I think most of us all heard that Comcast.net was hacked at NetworkSolutions.com last week for several hours but NetSol made sure to say their system in no way was hacked into. So to me, that means they are saying that the hackers got login info and hacked in that way. Very well could be….
I see several issues with NetSol’s site which I will not point out (for obvious reasons) but they do have more issues then just the ones that I see I’m sure. Here is an issue that I will point out.
I had purchased a domain name last Friday and one on Saturday from two different entities. Both domain names happened to be registered at NetworkSolutions.com . On Tuesday, I wanted to forward one of those domains to another site of mine. Well, it cost $12 per year to forward a domain at NetSol, so I wasn’t about to do that. So I was a bit ticked and I thought, Grrrr I will just transfer these domains to Moniker and I can forward them for Free! Transfer will cost me $7.44 and I won’t have to deal with NetSol’s crazy pricing come renewal or for the forwarding.
It didn’t cross my mind for some reason (prob because I was pissed), but all 10 of these domains that I wanted to transfer out should have a 60 day lock on the domain. Not just a whois update, but the domains were transfered from the old owners account to my account. Several I purchased on NameJet.com as well as the ones from the different entities. Now everything was Legal about my transactions, but one of the main reasons why a 60 day transfer lock is put on domain names on a change of registrant, is if somebody steals your domain and tries to transfer it out, they couldn’t and the domain would be at least still at the current registrar and should be easier to get back to the proper owners account.
Well, since 2 of the domains that I purchased changed registrants on Friday and Saturday and 3 & 4 days later, I was ticked and transfered them out! Now after I thought about it, I figured the transfers would not work. Well, They Did! All 10 domains that I transfered out, are all at Moniker now…. I was pretty shocked really.
So I see this as a Huge Security Flaw, as somebody could transfer your domain out of your account to theirs without you even knowing it and then transfer the domain to another registrar and you would likely never see your domain(s) again!
