I have been testing using the parking service ActiveAudience.com and direct linking a For Sale link for the domain to my Afternic.com listing page. I ran the test for just under 30 days (2 days short) with the intent to see if I got more offers and sales on my domain names.
The reason I cut the test two days short, was because I couldn’t stand not getting offers any more.
I listed 60 domains using ActiveAudience.com and each domains For Sale Link directly went it’s specific for sale page on Afternic.com via an affiliate link.
During the 28 days, I had Two (2) people sign up at Afternic. One as a "buyer" and one as "standard" levels. The buyer signed up off the domain DebtSpecialist.com and the standard signed up on Uked.com .
During the 28 day test with 60 domains, I got one (1) offer. That offer came in on DebtSpecialist.com for the amount of $1,500 which I counter offered and no deal was made.
It is VERY important to point out, that if an interested party would like to place an offer or use the buy it now on your domain that is listed with Afternic, they must Pay $1.00 to have a Buyers Account. Now this $1 doesn’t seem like much, but I think it is one of the main reasons why I did not get more then one offer, the whole 28 days. It’s something to "push away" an interested party. Sedo is the same way, as the interested party needs an account to send an offer. I do not think this is good! It must be Free and Very Easy for the interested party to submit an offer or just to show interest.
Parking revenue at ActiveAudience.com for those 60 domains was $29.39. I would say this about 1/4 to 1/2 of the rev then the parking rev I was getting at Fabulous. The average traffic range was about 400-500 uniques per day. CTR was low and mainly below 1%.
I had the minimum offer set at $750 on all the domain names listed. $750 might seem like a lot to some, but I had some high dollar domains listed as well. 9u.net, DebtSpecialist.com, GenuineGold.com, AutoAccessories.net, Dabbler.com, KidsCards.com, Literate.org, Uked.com, idgo.com, eamo.com and RecycleBox.com to name a few.
Dabbler.com lead the way with "visits" to the listing page at Afternic with 72. Repellent.org followed with 20, KidsCards.com with 15, UrineKit.com with 11, HireAid.com with 10, Sedie.com (chair in italian) with 10, idgo.com with 9, Literate.org with 9, Cavemen.org with 8, RDMP.com, Uked.com and Eamo.com all with 8 as well. Their were many more visits to other domains, but you get my point. The people where there, just not making offers or buying…
So a quick wrap up…. 60 domains listed, 1 offer, No sales. The intent was to make it Very Easy for an interested party to visit the domain directly and have the ability to click the For Sale link and be able to easily place an offer or use the buy it now on Afternic. Of the 60 domains listed, only 1 offer came in. Before I moved the domains, I was getting 4-5 offers per day and making 1-3 sales a week off of those offers just using the Fabulous.com parking page and setting the domain For Sale with a Make an Offer.
Suggestions: Use a service that allows an interested party to make an offer for Free. No signing up or paying any amount. Try to deal with the interested parties Directly. Do not count on a 3rd party service. Only use a 3rd party service when it comes to Payment (Escrow.com, Moniker escrow etc). I really like Fabulous.com for domain parking and selling my domain names. They include very clear banners on the domain landing page if you mark the domain for sale. The information provided with an offer is good for "checking into the buyer to see who they are". The ActiveAudience.com parking system is not all that bad and is a good option, but I still perfer Fabulous.com for the "whole package".
