Large companies, New Products.. Don’t get it…

Companies develop products and services for Years and then launch them to the public.

So why do most of these companies not have the matching domain name of these products? I don’t know what they are thinking and they end up paying for the mistake down the road!

Toyota just came out with the Winglet which is a sigway type machine. So I checked the .com and it’s parked and was registered back in 2005 by GNO, Inc . Gno is NOT Toyota. Since the domain is parked and also only registered in 2005, it’s a good bet that Toyota could of purchased the domain for a lot less back then. Toyota filed a Trademark for the term in November of 2007. I do not know if they will ever go after the domain or not, but you can bet if they do.. they will pay for it.

Now a company that isn’t web based gets a little more leverage (but they still look dumb), but when they are web based it really makes them look dumb!

Google comes out with Adsense and doesn’t go after the domain until AFTER launch. Knol is another service and again, Google launches before they own the domain name. iPhone by Apple was another and I’m sure many others as well.

I’m sure it’s any domain owners dream that a very large company comes out with a product/service named that matches a domain they own! Traffic alone will skyrocket as well as the domains value. If this ever happens to you, besure you keep your domain FREE of any TM issues and if you want to sell, don’t let them know about! They will pay for it at some point.
