Things to check from time to time

My browser went crazy when I went to post this the "first time" and when I hit Publish, my browser closed and I lost everything.. so here goes writing number two…

Here are some things that I suggest double checking.

Domain Categories: I have went through all my domain name listings at Afternic and Sedo and set categories for each and every domain. Today I checked and about 35% of the domains I have listed at Afternic have the default setting? Not sure why they changed, but as Afternic has stated: You have a 30% better chance of selling your domain name if you have a category selected. I also suggest setting a price, so it would be wise to do that as well.

For Sale Links: If you use for sale links on your domain name parking pages, I suggest picking 5 random domain names and sending yourself a "test offer". Email addresses change, and these companies could have minor glitches that had effected this code so it doesn’t hurt to just verify that the links are working.

Credit Cards: Many of us signed up a long time ago with several registrars and during sign up we put in our current credit card info at that time. Credit cards expire every year or two, so sign in at your registrar(s) and verify that you have your current and correct CC information provided. The safety net of Auto-Renew will not work if you have an expired credit card information provided.

Keywords: If you park your domain names, I know it can be a pain in the ass doing research for the best relevant terms, but times change and these changes can effect the keyword you once put in. Parking rev is down, but proper keywords can and will really help. If you were lazy when you entered your domain for parking, be sure a relevant keyword is listed. If you have a lot that have no keyword, just pick 5 per day and add a keyword.

Odd registrar: I mean odd as in a registrar that you do not use that often. Many of us purchase domain names from auction services like Pool, SnapNames, Afternic, Sedo and private parties. Many times these domains are NOT registered with your favorite registrar which can easily lead to you "forgetting" about that domain. Check through your records to see if one of your domains is at an odd ball registrar and transfer it to one of your favorites.

I hope this was of some help and maybe you will run across and error that you are able to address. Happy Domaining!

Note if you do bulk price changes in Afternic the category gets erased. IMO for domains that are alternative extensions, it isn’t worth the time to worry about optimizing parking. The only value is that a visitor can see the domain is available for purchase.

Update - we are working on a solution to the bulk price category issue.

Again Great Post
only one Suggestion more:
Check NameServers, had several domains bought on SnapNames. Because they cant be transfered out (60 days) i let them there and forget. But haven’t ever changed NameServers. Some of that had 10-20 visitors a day. Maybe its not a lot, but if you have 20-40 domains its throwing money away not setting it to my parking.

Good suggestion Zoki. You can still login to the registrar and change DNS even though you can not transfer out.
