7 of the top 15 domain registrars have negative 30 day change

It took much longer for the economy to effect the domain name industry, but this is the first time that I have seen so many Negative changes for nearly half of the top 15 domain registrars by volume. I think this is just further proof that the economy is clearly effecting not just Aftermarket domain sales, but also registrations and renewals.

The following stats are Positive and Negative changes over the past 30 days to the total amount of domain names registered/transfered in or transfered out/deleted at each registrar.

1 Go Daddy Software 373,488

2 eNom 61,516

3 Network Solutions -4,278

4 Tucows 53,485

5 Melbourne IT -17,289

6 1&1 Internet AG 48,103

7 Wild West Domains 32,436

8 Moniker Online Services -15,500

9 Register.com 9,042

10 PublicDomainRegistry.com -12,173

11 Key-Systems GmbH -311

12 Fabulous.com Pty Ltd -4,922

13 OnlineNIC, Inc. 4,206

14 Dotster 301

15 Intercosmos Media -12,268

Several of the "Gains" are also a good ways down as about 30-60 days ago Godaddy’s positive gains were in the Half Million range. So their gains are also down about 200,000.

When it comes to Australian Company’s like Melbourne It they charge way to much money for domain name registration - it is a rip off.

The price of a domain name to register makes a BIG impact on the customer

Why is that a proof for effect of economy. If i understand right / interpret right. There are more than 500,000 new regs and around 50,000 drops. For me it looks very good.
Ok, have reread it, and saw your last comment. Do you have data from last year ? I mean its just holiday time over, so most people have spent lot of money ?! Sure, 60 days ago were holidays so it can be proof of bad economy. But i would like to see more stats then just a current view and simplifying it to economy goes bad.

Hi Zoki. I have just watched these stats for a long time and never seen it like they were today when I checked. In order to get stats as you requested, you would have to grab charts for “each” registrar over the past year (lots of work). You can do so if you choose, http://www.registrarstats.com/Public/RegistrarMarketShareMain.aspx just click the name of the registrar, then change the date when the registrars page opens. Then you would have to do that 15 times, put the data together etc… Or you can just trust me ;)

Wondering why moniker dropped. They are quite cheap, secure and solid and doesn’t have wierd policies like godaddy (spam report locking of domains with senseless fees). Godaddy is still quite good but I use moniker for bigger projects cause I don’t want to lose them.

How were you able to glean stats for this? Not sure they can be trusted…

I am surprised 1and1 is not on the red list, with their reputation.

I agree! They just consolidated 2 registrars or I think they would be in the red.
