Back on December 28, 2009 the domain name Pepe.com sold on Bido.com for $15,000 USD and was stated by Bido owner Sahar that the sale was a "Milestone" sale for the Bido domain name auction site. A short three months later, the domain name PePe.com sold at Sedo.com domain name aftermarket service for $45,000 EUR! $45,000 EUR converts to about $61,000 USD according to today’s conversion rate!
That turns into about a $45,000 profit in a short three month time period for the buyer of PePe.com of the Bido auction, which happened to be the owner of Domaining.com .
I reached out to Francois before posting to see if he could share more about the sale, but I didn’t get a reply at posting time. I will update later if I do get a reply.
PePe.com has a lot of good things going for the domain name besides the fact that it is a CVCV domain, a popular combination of 4 letter domain names. It has double repeating letters in the form of PE and also happens to be a popular Spanish first name and a common nickname for José an Italian surname.
Pepe.com was first registered in October of 2001.
The current whois shows privacy protection and the domain name still goes to a Sedo.com domain name parking page, so the new owner is unknown at this time.
The Pepe.com sale at Sedo was the second highest .com domain name sale for the week of March 8, 2010 only getting beat out by Guagua.com which sold for $100,000 USD!
Sedo reported 3 other .com domain name sales in the five figure range which included Gastronomie.com for $35,000 EUR, Telemar.com for $12,000 EUR and xTrader.com for $10,000 USD. An error in the reporting as well took place, showing the domain name regcomfeb10port.com for $26,000 USD, but since that domain name is "available", that was likely a group of domain names sold for $26K and regcomfeb10port was the term used for the sale by Sedo. So if somebody else reports the domain sold for $26K and it makes you scratch your head, you know that domain didn’t sell for that amount.
A couple other sales at Sedo included:
- Sys.net $12,500 USD
- Open.org $6,500 USD
- Analytics.info $5,000 USD
- Docs.net $5,000 USD
Sedo has continued to be the hottest market place for domain names selling to what most would consider to be end users! Sedo reported 198 domain name sales for this week.

Francois
The domain has been sold by Mocus.com but the buyer was assisted by a Sedo broker.
So we will say it’s a sale done hand in the hand between Sedo and Mocus.
The buyer is from Poland and want to stay anonymous, of what I know he plans to use it within a reasonable amount of time.
Note:
That the domain sold on Bido for 15K and 61K only 2 monhs after on Mocus for much more doesn’t mean it was stupid to make it for sale at Bido.
At the inverse, the last owner was had urgent money needs and Bido helped him to get money fast.
End users don’t come when you want and I remember the average sale time for CVCV.com at the last sold price is 25 years according our experience on brandable domain sales.
So each past owner greatly benefited of each marketplace.

Thank you for the update Francois. Congrats again on the sale.
