Several 4 letter (.com) domain names are in this weeks list of reported domain names sales at Sedo.com . There were "others" but I mainly cover the major TLD’s in .com, .net, .org . In fact, 5 are in the top 29 reported sales this week and there is a wide range of "types". Many times 4 letter domain names are broken down by type, which can include:
- Quad Premium (all 4 letter are considered premium) Premium Letters are considered as:
- CVCV (consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel)
- VCVC (vowel, consonant, vowel, consonant)
- Pronounceable
The sales included:
Whib.com $48,600 USD which was the second highest reported sale for the week to Capture.com which sold for $53,200. Whib.com would be considered by most domainers as a non-premium domain name but clearly fetching $48K should change your mind on this!
Zeel.com was next in line for 4 letter domains selling at $7,000 USD. Nice pronounceable domain, great for branding.
Noba.com closely followed, selling for $6,000 USD. This domain would be classified as a CVCV but most CVCV’s are also pronounceable.
Sdos.com sold for $4,000 USD and would classify as a quad premium 4 letter domain.
Buar.com brought in $3,000 EUR. Buar would rank in as Whib would in my book.
Clearly not every 4 letter domain name will fit into a "class" but simply holding a letter like U in Buar often brings the value down in domainer eye’s but I always thought this was a mistake. These domain names that may seem like random acronyms to most may hold a meaning in a different language or simply match a companies acronym. Having multiple "low value" letters together I still think is not the best investment. Example: GZXB.com or QSGX.com
Tagf.com sold for $1,250 USD
Uzpm.com $1,000 USD
The 4 letter domain name market took a pretty big hit with the recession and values dropped off a lot but I think are starting to regain some strength. I have always said that CVCV, VCVC and pronounceable 4 letter COM’s are fair to wise domain investments. The better quality letters in a CVCV will raise the value with repeating premium letters being highest. FOFO.com, BOBO, BEBE, etc.
You run a larger risk with an investment in domains like Uzpm.com but clearly they do sell. Investing in a domain like Uzpm.com is wise at around reg fee to maybe $60 IMO (lower the better) but your buyer should be outside the domain industry for the maximum profit potential.
