Sedo is reporting a portfolio sale of 440 .info domains + 143 .biz domain names for $25,200 USD. It is not all that often that Sedo reports "portfolio" sales like this but it does happen from time to time.
I often watch Sedo’s RSS sales feed for the newest sales and it is always best to use caution when looking at the feed because Sedo reports "domains" that really didn’t sell. They simply use a made up domain name as the title of the sale.
The way Sedo reported the portfolio sale via the RSS feed is as follows:
440info143bizportfolio.com
Since that "domain name" is available for registration according to whois, clearly that "domain" itself didn’t sell for $25,200 USD.
Normally these "title" domain names are easy to pick out like above but sometimes they are a little harder and may catch some people off guard thinking the actual domain name did sell.
Sedo happened to report Receiptcom-lease.com yesterday as well for $4,500 USD. Again, the domain name is available but this one may be a little harder to pick out as a "title" domain to explain the transaction and some may have thought that actual domain name sold for that amount. I contacted the person who reports sales to me from Sedo yesterday but I didn’t get a reply back yet.
My question yesterday pertained to the Receiptcom-lease.com domain reporting and mainly because of the term Lease in it. I am not aware that Sedo offers any "Lease" options through its service, so that "title" domain made me scratch my head a little bit.
Another "sale" Sedo had reported back on April 30th, 2010 may have sparked a clue even though the reported domain didn’t really sell. The domain they reported was EmployeeTraining-Inital-Payment.com for $18,000 USD. This tells me that EmployeeTraining.com likely is selling and Sedo received an initial payment of $18,000 USD at that time for the domain. EmployeeTraining.com is listed at Sedo and has 2 offers on it, but the domain is also still "live" on the site.
In the end, be sure to use caution by simply looking at "domains" being reported sold because not every time it is the case. I let Sedo know of this reporting problem awhile back and they stated they were putting safe guards in place to prevent these "domains" that didn’t actually sell from being reported but clearly these safe guards are not working and domain sales are being reported that didn’t take place. Sometimes the domains being reported are actually "titles" referring to a specific sale.
