The Aftermarket.com Live Domain Name Auction will take place Feburary 21, 2009 at 2:15 CT . As always with Aftermarket.com the auction will be Live in person and Live online all at the same time.
I have always been happy with the results as a seller using Aftermarket.com which use to be the DomainTools.com auction format but was rebranded after Thought Convergence purchased DomainTools. The online tools have improved which is nice and several upgrades were done to the auction part for the online bidding. The software does not require a download which I see as a big plus to ALL.
Aftermarket.com had previously had a sell-thru rate of 80% which is Very Strong and impressive!
I do have some concerns with this auction from a sellers standpoint but one good safety net is your Reserve Price. I know Aftermarket.com is going to be looking for small or no reserve domains but you still have to protect your investment in this very unstable market.
Since you will need to submit your domain names by January 30, 2009 those 21 days until auction can be a big factor in how the domain market is going to look. The market "could" be better by then, but it also could be Worse.. so taking a risk with a No Reserve or very low auction just may be a bigger risk then it was in the past.
Aftermarket.com’s will be the 3rd Live domain name auction of the year with Internxet being first (Jan 13) which is an adult domain auction run by Moniker.com, followed by DomainFest on Jan 27-30 again ran by Moniker.
I have my fingers crossed for a good outcome of this auction. New budgets will be in place for many companies and they will have fresh green to spend. I also think by Feb of 2009, more people will be taking Action on starting their own businesses and go online and improving their financial status. The need for the perfect domain is still very strong for those "who get it".
Another side note, Aftermarket.com finally has a website up and no longer redirects to DomainTools.com which makes the site feel "more real" IMO.

Good Luck with the Aftermarket domain name auction.
For an auction to be a success many people (potential domain name buyers) have to be active at the auction.
At this moment you have sedo, afternic, aftermarket, TRAFFIC and others going their own ways instead uniting their purpose and working together that way many more domain name buyers will enter the market.

Jamie, DomainFest comes before this, so it’s not going to be the first auction of the year.
