Afternic.com & Sedo.com keep rolling out the sales each and every day in the four figure range which is something nice to see. It’s even all that much better if they are some of your domain names but none of these are mine.
These are also some fair prices for a wide range of domain names. Many domain investors may not even purchase these domains for "reg fee" but here are some sales that may prove you wrong.
Afternic.com
DoYouGetIt.com $5,000 4 word domain, makes sense, but $5K is a nice sale IMO.
ZapMe.com $6,888 Brandable.
TweetRatings.com $2,001 Without Twitter, this would not of happened. Plus I had read some place today that Twitter was denied the TM for Tweet…
Sedo.com
KindConsumer.com $2,000 Not a fan of this domain but somebody had a purpose and the value was $2K.
BeyondNature.com $5,900 Brandable, "Green Related".
CostumesHalloween.com $4,500 Backwards….
Jinqiao.com $3,000 Appears to be a something in Shanghai.
I think a good deal of these sales show that just about any domain name can have value to somebody. Waiting or going and finding that buyer pays off.
Bido, Bido, Bido…..
I will start off with saying one great thing about Bido is they have Great People behind it. Secondly, they listen and take action when things are not working!
So many things have changed at Bido I’m not sure where even to start. From my eye’s the 20 ish domains a day is not working. Today, 10 out of the 20 didn’t get a bid according to the auction archive. I also think the majority of domains did not have a reserve.
I have not rated any domains but I am also not a fan of opening up the rating to all members. This rating privilege should be Earned. This system is allowing tons of not so hot domain names being listed!
I think the biggest thing Bido needs to improve is Quality. Trust, Technology, Buyers are all in place but the quality is just lacking! icy.net was in the auction today and sold for $1,600 which I think is a fair price for the domain. 3CU.com sold for $350 which is on the higher end of CCC’s lately on other domain auction services. Boatload.com sold pretty cheap at $222.
I would rather see 2 quality domains a day then 18 so/so and 2 goodies a day.
Over promoting? Sorry Jerrad, I had to block you via Facebook because my page was filling up with Bido promtions for all the auctions each and everyday. Again, I think quality would help this problem out.
Again, I think Bido listens and takes action. I would scale things back, bring quality back up and make voting on domains a privilege with the voter having something backing them up with knowledge of domain names and not just a membership.
A lot of domainers are willing to help as it was clear with people leaving comments when one domain a day auctions were in place.

When I moved some of my domains to SEDO from other parking sites(the ones that start with P and the Aussie F) , the sites got clicks and best of all, offers to sell.
Not all parking are the same.

You got that right Jamie, Bido does have wonderful people at the wheel, and they do in fact listen. But, I’m not sure if their latest bets are going to pay off for them over the long haul. In fact it’s already hurting them, but can they see that far out? I’m not too sure. The site seems very watered down now and it’s lacking that innovative energy which it should/did have buzzing around it at the get go. I expressed my feelings about this a few days ago on my blog and Jarred responded promptly. But I don’t think they are really getting what I’m getting at. If Bido expects to attract higher quality domain names for submission to the site, then they truly need to bring the house down and come up with a way to create a ‘spectacular event’. They have the connections. They have the backing. Their platform development team is top notch. Now imagine all of their present value points leveraged with a coinciding monthly ‘real world’ LIVE auction event. It would totally drive buyers and sellers to Bido, because in that moment Bido would become a serious ‘destination’ portal, with LIVE electric currents firing out of it. Like LIVE entertainment, and LIVE buying and selling plugging it all together. Plus, if Bido truly wants to be in the mass domain auction business they can! All they need to do is effectively leverage the blogosphere and social web by truly becoming a social site. For instance, there’s absolutely no reason that we shouldn’t be able to embed a list of our domains that we have manually set up for auction, on to our own web sites. Likewise, there should be no reason that our visitors can’t grab that code and embed the auction widget onto their own sites. This is platform distribution 101. And as I’ve said before, if Bido doesn’t soon implement these types of highly viral tools and usability features (like RSS for auctions) then they are going to effectively miss the boat, actually it’s a spaceship and its preparing for lift off into another dimension!! Because listen, I can guarantee you, if they don’t do IT, somebody else will. Right now the door is wide open for anyone to become the true titan of the domain auction industry. The ever populating swamp of domain clearing houses is oozing at the seams, but who among them really stand a chance at truly changing the game?? NO ONE. But someone could… Is it Latona? Is it Moniker? I doubt it’ll be SEDO, after all they just now are discovering ‘trees’
Pathetic… I want to see the UFC of domain auctions! I want the masses to really feel the blood, sweat and tears that domainers go through to obtain these highly precious bits of real estate. Damnit! I want it to feel like we’re building the next New York City, but it’s a global metropolis interwoven by a social capital investment marketplace. I believe that Domaining is the next NASDAQ. Domaining is the future of the music industry, and it’s the next Hollywood blockbuster. Tell me I’m not alone in this shit… Please!!! Who knows, maybe I’m smoking crack and should go pay Rick Latona the $3500 he’s asking for crackhouses.com – Anyway… I know you guys are listening to what we’re saying. The chat button is easy to find now. The domain resell contract is simple now. Like I said in my post Sahar, you really wanna GO BIG? – PLUG US IN.

Re TweetRatings.com There have been substantially higher private Tweet-domain sales. With no TM issue, expect Tweet Network values to rise, especially when entrepreneurs / investors do the ROI math on Daily Pageviews, Daily Ads Revenue from a simple tweetsite… its a microblog. The crowd creates the content. $2K thats cheaptweets, I’m expecting 6 figures soon, and $1,000,000 in 18 months. All possible by Facebook, YoutTube, IM, Google, Text, smartphones, TV, celebs, dotweekly.com, etc, and of course Twitter, because they all Tweet.
Welcome to the social revolution of shared knowledge.

JAMIE,
As I understand the Bido Process,
One can bid at any time before and during
the 1-hour auction. But during the auction hour
I am at a lunch meeting. My “frenzy” mentality
never gets a chance to bid up in the “auction”.
Hence the excitement of an auction.
Solution: – not yet sure.
thanks much,

Quality over quantity is normally best, unless you’re like Sedo or Afternic and represent millions of registered domains for sale. If I remember that was the original business model that Bido was created on, one quality domain a day.
But they never really trialed any high quality domains for auction for some reason and subsequently changed their business model to a low volume liquidation service for fairly poor quality domains.
They definitely have some great graphic designers and programmers on staff, its just their business model hasn’t evolved enough yet to make Bido a real success.
They should definitely throw some quality domains into the mix and start getting some recognition as being a good place also for $10k plus sales. But it is impossible to do this at present.
Jarred
Thanks for the feedback everyone, we are certainly listening and working hard to bring more features to the surface and tweak the existing ones to provide the balance the community is yearning for.

I like Bido and have sold two or three domains there in the past. But I also miss the ol’ 1 domain a day Bido.
The chat room always had 1 special guest per day, the expert commentary was interesting… it was easy to follow.
The other day I was lost going in and out of chat rooms and couldn’t find a session with people in it, it was no longer quick and easy.
Maybe a spin-off of the old model would work better, like having only 3 or 5 daily auctions with one main event, who knows.
Keeping it simple was what attracted me to Bido in the beginning.
That said, I really like how Bido works and how proactive they are when it comes to trying new things and implementing changes.
I wish Jarred and team the best and I’m sure they will come out with a system that works for all!

RE:Bido.
One of the improvements to quality would be to get rid of the voting system or at least limit it somehow. There are too many domainers offering up NP points and other incentives for crappy domains. In their relaunch earlier this year the names were better. The garbage I submitted was rejected (and rightfully so), but there weren’t any real reasons to submit better names with the lack of decent sales.
The ability to buy votes at no real cost will kill the quality of the names and forever cement Bido’s reputation as the domain name garbage dump.
It is such a promising platform that I sincerely hope that this does not occur.
