The online file sharing service Box.net has made a domain name upgrade!
Box.net has acquired the domain name Box.com from Digi Media!

The domain names whois records changed to privacy on 2/24/2011 and as of yesterday (9/28/2011) the whois record displayed Box.net as the owners of the domain name!
I wasn’t able to dig up a sales price for the Box.com sale, but I’m sure it was a minimum of six figures, if not higher! Box.com now redirects to Box.net.
I’m sure "a fair amount" of people who intended to visit Box.net would type the more common TLD .com and ended up at a location they weren’t expecting. So clearly this was a very smart move by Box.net to purchase the .com! Will Box.net become Box.com? Hard to say at this point but now they can if they want to.

Box.net recently got $50 million in funding. Purchase price would have been 7 figures.

There are many companies doing what box net is doing and whoever have the best domain names win the game.
Plain and simple.

@Brian,
Thank you! I try my best doing it as a one man show.

It’s about time that they acquired the box.com! Great investment, regardless of how much they purchased the domain name for. Something tells me this was a 7 figure acquisition.
