Yesterday I had discovered that Box.net had purchased the domain name Box.com. The domain buying spree has continued and three more domain names now have Box.net ownership on them.

Box.net has now purchased:

FetchBox.com

FetchBox.net

FetchBox.org

All three domain names were owned by the same person, so getting all three domains was easier than buying them from different people. Fetchbox.com appeared to be developed in some way, but it is unclear if the domain purchases were just that or if the purchase included any software/data etc.

FetchBox.com by Box.net

FetchBox.com is in no way the "killer" type domain name purchase of Box.com they recently made but clearly Box.net has something set for the domain(s) or it could be a "brand protection" with an up coming launch of "Fetch Box", that would likely be a feature offered by Box.net.

The buying pattern looks pretty similar to what they did when they purchased Box.com. The domain went to privacy protection (which could be a domain buyer/broker) and then Box.net is displayed as the owners. MarkMonitor was likely involved in each of the purchases as the domain names were transferred to MarkMonitor.

Box.net recently received around $50 Million in funding, so it isn’t uncommon for companies to spend some of that investment money on premium domain names that will further help them. This appears to be the case here as well, mainly with the Box.com purchase. I will keep an eye on Box.net and see if they continue buying up some more domain names.
