ThisIsNotIkea.com is a vintage style furniture store that offers old chairs, art and more. The problem is, Ikea® is a registered trademark and thisisnotikea.com is clearly using the TM in there domain name.

The Ikea TM is stated for " retail services featuring furniture, housewares and home furnishings," which is clearly what ThisIsNotIkea.com is offering.

Even with the terms "This is not" will not clear you (give you the go ahead) to use a Trademarked Term in your domain name without permission.

I also didn’t see anything on the ThisIsNotIkea.com site that said they are not affiliated with IKEA®.

The problem is, people notice the term Ikea no matter how it’s used in the domain name. The website will be trying to profit and happens to have the Ikea® name in it’s domain, which is a no no.

I like the site and the idea, but just not the part of digging into a "brand" and or a "Trademarked term" into their domain name. Building brands costs a lot of money and that is why the trademark laws are in place, which helps you protect your brand.

According to the whois database, the registrant on record for ThisIsNotIkea.com is Adrian Hadjopulos of LA. Ikea is based out of the Neitherlands.

If you are going to start a website, be sure to choose a generic domain name that is free and clear of any Trademarks. Doing what the above site has, leaves a very large risk of A.) legal trouble and b.) starting all over rebranding your website with a new name.
