As a domain name investor and owner of many catchy marketing domain names, it always puts a smile on my face and grabs my attention when I see a make sense domain name used by a company in marketing. So what do I mean by "catchy"? The domain name often steers away from the companies main domain name and is either simply used to redirect customers to the companies main website or goes to a microsite specifically for a campaign they are running.

These catchy domain names are used to grab attention just by a user seeing or hearing it. This often sparks interest and results in a visit by the person seeing it. The reason behind marketing and advertising. So here are a couple domain names that grabbed my eye the past couple of days and why!

Domain Name: SimplyPerfect.com

Source: Magazine Print

Company / Product: Silver Patron Tequila

Tag Line: Simply Perfect

Hand-Selected 100% Weber Blue Agave. The World’s Finest Ultra-Premium Tequila. Simply Perfect.

Silver Patron uses the catchy and make sense tag line Simply Perfect to reference its tequila product. Following up on the simply perfect tag line is the matching, make sense domain name SimplyPerfect.com . All I can say is, the domain name they picked is Simply Perfect!

Reasons to use SimplyPerfect.com as a domain name in marketing? Ad tracking, catchy, makes sense, matches tag line, easy to remember, speaks of the quality of the product.

Downside? Company does not own the matching product name as a domain name: SilverPatron.com . People often search for the matching name of a product and search engines look and put a very strong value on the matching terms in a domain name. Many use direct navigation and would result in lost customers without owning it. Development with relevant content to the domain name increases better ranking and adds more trust to the searcher. Having control of the direct navigation is vital. The companies main domain name is PatronTequila.com, which SimplyPerfect.com forwards to.

Domain Name: ThinkBeyondTheLabel.com

Source: Magazine Print

Company / Product: Disabilities Campaign

Tag Line: Innovate. Think Beyond The Label.

Just because someone moves a little differently doesn’t mean they can’t help move your business forward. The same goes for people with disabilities.

This is pretty good use of a domain name to get a message across just in the name alone. The domain name matches the message and simply makes sense. Could the domain ThinkBeyond.com be used? Likely as it may be easier to remember but often times length and making sense with the domain name is better.

Domain Name: NoMoreNakedPopcorn.com

Source: On Product Packaging

Company / Product: Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasoning

Tag Line: None

The term "Naked" catches people’s eye like crazy and used with-in this descriptive domain name is no different. Who wants to eat plain popcorn! Although the domain name is 4 words, it makes sense and is crazy catchy due to the word Naked included instead of using a term like Plain!

NoMoreNakedPopcorn.com is simply used to grab the attention of the user to see what is at the site. NoMoreNakedPopcorn.com simply redirects to the companies main site at KernelSeasons.com but is more interesting than just putting the companies name on the product IMO! The domain can and likely is being used to track how many people actively use the domain name displayed on the product packaging.

Using specific domain names for ad tracking is Great! Using specific domain names to matching a marketing message is wise! Domain names are very powerful and allow many options, so there is no reason to simply stick with one domain name.
