This pertains to offers on your domain names that are not through a 3rd party listing service like Sedo or Afternic.
You get an offer via email, send a reply and likely get another reply back. After several emails you and the interested party have come to terms on a sales price. Don’t get overly excited because you still have work to do!
For me, I always feel this is a Vital Time in a domain sale! Something that always comes to mind: "Talk is cheap". You have come to an agreement, but money has not changed hands and you need to make That Happen!
You want to keep the buyer Happy and prevent Buyer’s Remorse. So Time and Options are important! At the time of agreement of price, the best thing to do is give the buyer A Lot of options and I always think it’s best to allow the buyer to choose from a good sized list you provide.
Although you are providing the list, the buyer still feels safer because they get to pick. Here is what I normally send the buyer unless they first suggest a payment form. (they rarely offer a payment type)
For the payment and transfer of the domain name, we have a couple options for both of our security and they all involve a 3rd party service.
Via Afternic.com . It will cost you $1 to sign up to become a buyer if you are not already, but Afternic is very fast. They handle payment (several options like Credit Card, Wire Transfer etc) and will assist in the transfer of the domain name. Just submit your (Offer Amount) offer here (place Direct Link to your domain here) and I will accept it.
Via Sedo.com . You can send your (Offer Amount) offer directly here (place Direct Link to your domain here) and I will accept it. Sedo brokers and assist in domain name sales and is a good service. You will need to create an account if you do not have one already and it’s free to do so. They will take payment and assist with the transfer of the domain to your account.
Via Moniker.com, since the domain name is registered with the registrar Moniker.com, they also offer an escrow service. It’s a bit pricey as the fee starts at $75, but I would be willing to split that fee with you if you choose this route. This option allows us to keep the whole transaction in one place. If you would like to start the escrow and use this option, my escrow email is (place email here) and it can be started here. (place moniker escorw URL here) Select "Split Fees". I can also start this process if you wish and all I will need an email address that you would like me to use.
Via Escrow.com, this is a very reliable service and the process goes pretty quickly. The escrow fee’s go by the % of the sale price and again, I would be willing to split this fee with you. Like Moniker, I can start the escrow or you have the option to do so as well. An email address and purchase price is needed to start the transaction.
The basics: Give your buyer a lot of options that you choose. Without being "pushy" get that payment ASAP!
If you offer Afternic as an option, go to Afternic Before Hand and be sure the domain is set to Standard Promotion (10%) instead of the Expanded option which is 20%. Any money you can save, the better! Afternic isn’t selling the domain, they are just assisting in closing the deal.
Use affiliate links when you can, as this can end up saving you some $’s as well.
