As many of you know I am a big racing fan and during last night’s race at Richmond International Raceway the #16 Ford car driven by Wisconsin native Matt Kenseth had a primary sponsorship by the internet company and category killer domain name Coupons.com .

In racing and the sponsors that go on the car, you see a lot of domain names. As with TV, this once was not the case but know you see domain names every where and it is because the power a domain name offers. They are like a traffic sign that easily describes what you should or can do just by seeing it.

Coupons.com is no different. Just seeing Coupons.com automatically rings two bells in your brain seeing it.

Just by seeing .com after the term Coupons instantly makes your brain think: I can get coupons if I visit Coupons.com on the net.

It is pretty cool the amount of power a domain name has just by seeing it!

Coupons.com Matt Kenseth

I have seen and used Coupons.com before, so I was well aware of them when I saw the graphics on the race car promoting Coupons.com but many may have missed the all important .com in the logo. A person seeing Coupons is totally different than seeing Coupon.com !

As you can see in the images above of the race car.. the Coupons logo is pretty clear but the .com is pretty well hidden, which clearly can and is a problem.

Matt finished 10th out of the 43 car field and had several on camera shots of the car during the race and a pre-race interview as well. Coupons.com got some great exposure on TV but I’m just hoping people could SEE the .com and not just think Coupons was the sponsor. At track exposure was good as well and I’m sure Coupons.com is very happy with their sponsorship but I also hope for them that the .com was easy to see for others, because it wasn’t for me.

Make sure your TLD is clear when promoting your website with the logo. Displaying the TLD is almost as important as the domain name to get the message across that you are an internet company.

Brad Keselowski won the race with an amazing finish. Brad drove for GoDaddy.com last year.

Side Note: The race track (Richmond International Raceway) owns a great domain name as well: RIR.com

I love the fact that NASCAR owners are allowing dot.com’s to be sponsors. I only dream of the day when MY .com is large enough to have a logo on the hood of a car.

I am a #48 fan and I am not sure if I will ever be able to afford having a logo on Jimmie’s car. :) Unfortunately, Juan Pablo Montoya isn’t an exciting enough driver for me to support him and the Target Racing team.
