It has been busy for me lately getting ready for our first child coming any day now. My wife is 39 weeks, 1 day today and we should find out more today with another doctors appointment this afternoon as to when the birth day will be. Weekly ultrasounds and doctor appointments sure do take up a lot of my extra time to blog, so that is a reason I haven’t been blogging a ton.
~ Past 3 domain name sales for me update. Two at Sedo, one at Afternic. Out of the 3 sales, two of the domains I was going to let expire when they came up for renewal… so I found that interesting. Both were about 1 month from expiring at the time of purchase. Two of the sales, one at Sedo and one at Afternic, the buyers used the buy it now feature. The third sale was a back and forth offer, until I accepted at Sedo.
~ That banner with domain names I have been listing on the upper right sidebar, all are getting a fair amount of attention (some with over 100 visits to the Sedo listing page) but no offers or sales yet. I admit, I have the vast majority "end user priced", but keep in mind that offers are welcome no matter what the price is stated at Sedo. I’m all about sending domains to auction at pretty much any price and letting them sell for what the market states.
~ I think I found a nice base model for promoting affiliate products with a stand a lone site that I created. I tested one for the past 3 months and that site has over 700+ unique visitors to date. Not bad for a hand reg domain and zero promoting of the site. I just focused on "natural" keywords that I think people will search for. I hope to write a how-to-post on this little system in the near future. I want it to be a good and detailed post, so you can easily duplicate it if you wish. This current site is doing about $70 a month but Friday I discovered that all my links, minus one banner… had dead links from a mistake I made when I built the site! This is my WordPress link cloak method if you are unaware of it. The problem for me.. I named the folder as singular, but when I made my links on the site… I made that plural and I must not of checked (clicked) any of the links to test them when I first built the site. Any clicked links lead to a 404, which clearly hurt the chances of me cashing in from the clicks.
Lesson learned, always test your links to make sure they work. Never assume that they simply work.
The good news for me, I earned the $70 with none of my links working, except 1 banner image in the sidebar. Now that the links are fixed and working properly, it will be exciting to see how the site does with everything in working order!
Since this site is doing pretty well, I hand registered another domain yesterday and repeated my model with a different product. The sites take me about 1:30-2 hours to do. Images, unique content, SEO work and so on. WordPress is simply the best content management system to use for what I am doing.
More to come on this!
~ Tip: I like to learn from domain name sales and some you can learn a lot more about it. MaleEnhancement.net sold for $15,000 to a company called Go Marketing Inc. . If they are paying $15K for a domain, that tells me they have a working business model and I want to look into it! I was able to find a "portfolio" of websites they have at http://gomarketinginc.net/properties.html . Once on that page, I dug around and looked at what they are doing. The majority of the links on the sites are CJ.com affiliate links. The use unique content, with a simply site layout. Using your browser, you can go to View, Page Source. This allows you to see keywords they are focusing on etc. My last search is at Google. I use: site:domainhere.com and see what they have indexed and what each indexed page they focus on with keywords.
Just knowing how others do this can greatly help you to better your site or models you are testing out. If it appears they are rolling in the $$$, dig into what they are doing and try some of the things out!
~ I will try to keep everybody updated on baby news!

Leonard Britt
Congrats on the new baby which will come during the holidays! As you mentioned I have had a couple of Godaddy Premium Listings sales recently for brandable three-word .COMs that I probably wouldn’t have renewed in the next few months.
Jamie Zoch
Thank you Leonard! Sometimes sales just happen to come on domains you wouldn’t expect
which can be a nice thing.

Congrats on the new baby Jamie!
TeenDomainer
Thanks for the update and congratulations on the child soon.

Keep in mind, Dec. 31 is the end of year for many businesses. Some companies (mostly private) look to make strategic investments this time of the year for tax purposes.

All the best on the baby and good health to your wife Jamie.
