As a domain name owner and seller of many domain names, I like to give myself as many options as I can have when offering my domain names for sale.

IMO, the more places you can have your domain name listed for sale, the more likely it will be seen or known it’s for sale. For this reason, I use several websites to list domain names.

  • My personal site
  • Sedo.com
  • Afternic.com
  • Parking pages (Fabulous.com) via a For Sale Banner

You can also use sites like domain name forums (NamePros.com & DNF.com), SnapNames.com and some of the very popular social network sites like Twitter.

One thing I was never a fan of was… your domain name can only lead somebody to One Place. What I mean by this, if somebody types in (Direct Navigation) my domain name or clicks a link, what is the best landing page?

  • Is it the domain names specific landing page on my personal site?
  • Is it the specific domain names listing page on Sedo?
  • Is it the specific domain names listing page on Afternic?
  • Is it the specific domain names parking page?

I think you have a couple options that may work best for you depending on what your main objective is. Some focus on domain parking and having a for sale link my "hurt" a persons CTR. It could..

Having your domain land on (domain forwarding) it’s specific Sedo or Afternic pages could potentially be the best option if your main  focus is "sales".

Many domain name owners would like the best of both worlds! That’s what I want at least. I want a parking page that makes me money via ads, but I also want it very clear that my domain name is for sale.

For me, Fabulous.com offers an effective parking system. They also offer nice For Sale banners that also give you two options if a user clicks on the for sale banner.

  • Email contact form
  • URL Redirection to a specific URL that you input

The email contact form is fine and works, but one thing I do not like is it doesn’t give your buyer any options or You! What if the buyer does not like the contact form if you use that option? What if you use URL Redirection and send them to the specific domain names landing page at Afternic and they do not want to pay the one time $1 fee to be a buyer? etc.

So I wanted more options!

I created a little system that, 1.) gives ME options and 2.) allows me to provide options to interested buyers of my 500 + domain names.

I have the domains that I offer for sale all with Fabulous.com . In return, if anybody visits any of my domain names, they land on a domain name parked page and hold potential to earn money if they are NOT an interested buyer and are simply looking for a product or service. I also mark my domain names for sale and the Fabulous pages have a nice clear For Sale Banner.

TechPrep.com Parking Page

Using the URL Redirection option at Fabulous.com, which now sends interested parties to my new "system" when or if somebody clicks the For Sale Banner.

Using my little system allows me to set up what I want while still using domain parking. Currently with my system, the interested party can use a contact form or I also provide the interested party 2 third party links to both Afternic or Sedo which will land the interested party to it’s specific landing page for the domain name they visited. The following is my page an interested party  will see if they click my For Sale banner on my parking page but matching the specific domain name the visited.

MustOwn.com Domain Landing Page

I think the biggest thing that I like is the Options that I now have! I can put whatever info on the page the potential customer lands on.  I can request what info I would like the potential customer to fill out and also provide what links or images I want!

The homepage of MustOwn.com is not really made for people to "visit it", but I’m sure some people will visit the homepage after landing on the "sales page", so I wanted to at least have a little something on the homepage. I could of used this same system on my personal domain site, but I currently do not have it set up the best to do so, so this was easier. It also allowed me to build something that can easily be offered for others to use.

At some point I may offer this script for sale, as it’s nice to have. It can be either a personal listing site or used as I use it currently for a domain seller to have more options! I would be interested to hear what you think of this little system. If you would like the full effect, you can visit any of my domains for sale really, but TechPrep.com is one and then clicking the For Sale Banner in the upper right. You will then landing on it’s "sales page" which provides the buyer with a couple options and 25 "other domains" that I can show.

I currently do not have any data on how effective this little system is, but I will keep you updated as time passes.
