Marketing comes in many forms but using a specific domain name in them can make a marketing message Much stronger and actually can make your effort more effective!
Let me give you a couple examples of a way to use a domain name in your marketing.
With all marketing, the entity doing it is trying to get a message across. This will many times be on TV or Print and include pictures and text all pertaining to One Meaning. These pictures and text do two things (hopefully). Catch the eye of the people they are marketing to and secondly are able to send a message across.
Companies use many domain names for specific websites. It may be their Brand or a Specific Product, Service etc.
One thing that is not done overly all that much is to use a specific domain name, preferably a Call-To-Action domain name to get a message across in advertising.
Here is an example of one that does and it just makes sense.
J.K Harris and Company runs a TV ad. They talk about Back Taxes the whole commercial and how they can help with the service they offer. During this commercial, they are also displaying the Exact domain name BackTaxes.com and they say visit BackTaxes.com.
Now it may seem like a no brainer, but so many people do not match what J.K Harris did. J.K. Harris’ pure point of the commercial was Back Taxes. The message they wanted to get across is that J.K. Harris and Company offers Back Taxes services. They uses pictures, text and the Exact Match term BackTaxes.com.
Now, J.K. Harris does not have a huge added cost of building a new site for there domain name, they simply use Domain Name Forwarding and send that traffic to a specific page on there J.K. Harris site.
The domain name allows J.K. Harris and Company to make a very clear marketing message and continue there message online 24/7, 365 days a year!
Your marketing message doesn’t have to be just for TV. It can be used in Print Ads, Radio, Online Ads, Business Cards, Brochures, Email and much more!
Is it worth paying a couple hundred or a couple thousand dollars just to get your message across using a call-to-action domain name? Heck Ya! Domain Names are the new 800 phone numbers!. With domain forwarding, you can nearly instantly change where you want your customers visiting a specific domains location.
Domain names simply Give You Options! You can build a one page lander website, you can build a full store, a Brand, you can set up a survey, offer a free download, video, an App, product sample, email and so much more!!!!
Now some domain names speak much more volume then others. Your domain name HAS to be catchy, clear and make sense with your marketing message!
Here are a couple more examples:
Let’s say you offer a Quit Smoking product. Your message keeps talking about "it’s hard to quit" and "it’s not easy" while showing pictures of people struggling to quit! Marketing is about getting Personal! Using a domain name like iCantQuit.com can speak volumes! Product X is here to help….
Using a domain name that asks a Question can also be a way to get people to visit. Humans are very curious!!! HateYourCar.com check out the new blah blah. 45 MPG etc and point out things why you will not hate this New car…. (use common things in the ad why most people hate there car) and why this car your marketing is better!
Weight loss is big business! What do we all hate about trying to lose weight? Exercise. We don’t have all the time it takes to spend 4 hours in a gym every day.. With product X you can Exercise Less and still lose weight. Product X allows you to Exercise Less because blah blah blah. Are you ready to Exercise Less? Join our friends that agree! ExerciseLess.com .
Let’s say you are an employment agency and you are at a Job Fair. You "could" use your brand if it’s very well known, but what if it isn’t. The people that are looking for help are really looking for Hiring Aid. Speak to them with HiringAid.com because that is what they are really looking for!
Want people Reordering your product after they have purchased it? Let’s say you are a Energy Drink company… Use a domain name like RefuelMe.com to help with reordering!
Domain names can be used for much more then just a Website! Domain Names are Marketing Experts best friend when the proper domain name is used. It’s time for you to become your own expert! If your perfect domain name for your marketing message is already owned by somebody, use the domain name owners database by simply typing in the domain name and contact them to see if you can purchase the domain.
Get your message across and a Domain Name can be your best friend!

Exactly. That should bring it home to a lot of people…

Agree with domains being the next 800 numbers, I think it has been that way for a while now.

I think Rick Schwartz may have been the first person to make that connection.
Either him or the 1-800-Flowers guy.

Nice article Jamie.
Before I started my domain career, I spent many years as a management consultant to F500s (primarily in the automotive industry). The company I worked for specialized in market research (intercepts, computer-assisted telephone interviews, new owner studies, focus groups, product clinics, etc.). Basically, we were the folks responsible for many of the products/services that made it to market.
Once the marketing/brand mgrs. of the firms we used to work with realize that all of this data (and so much more) can be gathered for them @ InsertGreatDomain.com, then leveraged through infinite sales/promo/marketing campaigns @ NextGreatDomain.com we’ll truly see this industry take off.
This is still a relatively small cottage industry, but we hold the future of global commerce in our portfolios. It starts with end-user education.
