I like to come up with new things that I think may interest other domain name investors and I try my hardest, that when you read DotWeekly.com, you see things no other sites are talking about. I know I hate reading sites like Domaining.com and seeing site after site covering the same thing.

It takes a lot of work simply coming up with things interesting or valuable to write about, so I think many people miss that simple fact. I could write about a zillion things but I’m not that much for writing about things others are talking about.

So, I am starting DotWeekly Discoveries!

DotWeekly Discoveries will include domain names and tactics and others all relating to domain names! The idea came because I research "new" domain registrations by some of the largest companies in the world, what they are buying and so on. These registrations and purchases will likely become popular sites, services, products and more. Hearing about them before they happen can be a competitive advantage for you. When I see something unique, I will gladly share it with you! Soooo…

P&G

Is launching a new "Advertising Brand" with Future Friendly™ and purchased the domain name FutureFriendly.com . They did so with a secret buyer, IMO and used "Janet Brown" of "Gillaco.com" to do so. Janet Brown purchased the domain on or about June 8, 2009. Whois changed to P&G in August 2009 according to whois records. If you happen to get an email offer on a domain from a jbrown@gillaco.com … you now have a better idea of what may be up. The "Janet Brown" name was used for several purchases of domain names for other companies as well.

Oprah / Harpo Inc.

It appears that Oprah will be doing a Live Tweet event TODAY at 7 PM Central! Harpo registered the domain name OprahLiveTweet.com on 04/01/2011. Oprah is on Twitter.com with a bit over 5.4 Million followers and also started using the hash tag #OprahLiveTweet recently.

McCormick

McCormick is a super popular seasoning company and they recently registered the domain name RecipeInspirations.com . Look for this to be a new product line or something related to recipes.

FlavorSmarts.com was purchased in the domain aftermarket recently by McCormick as well.

MetLife

MetLife registered MoreThanALender.com

Bayer AG

Registered the domain name FightClots.com

CorprateDomains

Actually backorders a ton of domain names for trademark holders via NameJet, SnapNames and Pool and uses the email address profservices@cscinfo.com  when it does so. They have been grabbing "Rolex" domains like crazy lately.

Emerson Electric

Appears to have purchased Spider.com from Spider Software or they purchases Spider Software totally. The later seems to be the case but these big companies acquire so many companies it’s hard to keep track. On March 25, 2011 the whois updated to Emerson Electric for Spider.com. Spider.com now forwards to Emerson.com

Sony Music Entertainment UK Ltd

Acquired the domain name RedOrBlack.com from the past owner and hand registered the domain name TheGreatRecipe.com on March 31, 2011.

QVC

Likely purchased the three letter domain name TSV.com from Marksmen.com or with the help of Marksmen.com. Either way, QVC now owns TSV.com

Jack Spurr

Who the heck is Jack Spurr? Good question… but likely not a "real person". He / They / Whatever buys a fair amount of domain names. FindMore.com, ProBiology.com  are a couple of the recent Jack Spurr purchases. IMO, this is another secret buyer for a large company. My guess, Microsoft secret buyer but could be just one in general.

FindMore.com sold in 2006 for $2,000 according to DnJournal.com via eNom Club Drop. I’m sure it sold for more than that this time but I couldn’t find a published price.

Philip Morris

Acquired the domain name NewSmoke.com around March 10 , 2011 time frame.

Potential Sold Domains

Funnel.com very likely sold!

TheGoods.com very likely sold!

Am I understanding that you will take a complete change, you’re going to publish only this type of information. If so then I tell you that this is how a blog / business should operate. You’re going to be very competitive and successful with this kind of information.
I just hope that you are consistent and do not give up by becoming one of those many blogs with irrelevant information.

I appreciate the unique content that you create and how difficult it is to do so. This column is really great.

    @Owen,
Thank you. It’s fun doing these type of articles but I wasn’t sure if people would enjoy it or not.

    @Post,
I wasn’t planning on “only” doing these type of rticles. I’m sure I could write only about it but it may get a little dry over time, so I will continue with do help articles (how to) and so on.

Very interesting information, Jamie. It definitely is useful to domainers to have insight into large companies and their branding activities.

I like it. It would be really nice if you can post more.

    Thanks
