Here is some more insight into new domain name registrations and aftermarket domain name purchases by large companies. Some companies are pretty active and appear to be rolling out a fair amount of new products and or services according to some new domain name registrations.
Some new companies have made the list, which is always nice to see as well, so lets get started.
(side note fact: It took 2.5 days to discover the following data you are about to read)
General Motors
Hand registered a few new domain names that include: ChevroletTrax.org/.net (the .com is owned by HugeDomains.com, for sale at $1,695. There is a chance that GM purchased it, as whois is acting a little odd) but they registered ChevyTrax.com/.net/.org
GM also registered several more domain names that may give some insight into new car models? Some of those are: ChevyGroove.com, ChevroletFest.com, CadillacProvoq.com, ChevroletViva.com and ChevySparkSS.com. There were several "Performance" and "Tuning" domains registered as well like: ChevyTuning.com, ChevySparkPerformance.com and ChevroletCameroPerformance.com with several more of other keyword variations. ChevroletInsideNews.com, InsideChevroletNews.com and InsideChevyNews.com also were registered.
It will be interesting to see if GM rolls out any of these new domains into cars/trucks/SUV etc.
RIM
Hand registered a lot of domain names and most are related to Blackberry Bold 9900 and Blackberry Bold 9930. Why they registered them AFTER they launched the product, I’m not sure. Some of the variations include: 9900BlackberryBold.com and all TLD’s. 9930BlackberryBold.com and all TLD’s. AppsForBlackberryBold.com, AppsForBold.com, BB9930.com and all TLD’s, BB9900.net and all other TLD’s but they do not own the .com. BlackberryBold9900Touch.com, BlackberryTouchBold.com and other TLD’s. BoldSucks.com, BoldSmartphone.com and over 100+ other combinations relating to the keywords used above. It appears the Blackberry 9900/9930 models were launched sometime in early May 2011.
Amazon
Continued with its registration of several Kindle domain names. This time the keyword focus was "Eco System" and domains like: KindleEcoSystem.com and KindleEcoSystems.com
Bare Escentuals
Used the domain company Marksmen to help them purchase the domain name BareInc.com from BuyDomains.com . BuyDomains grabbed the domain during "the drop" in February 2010. From what I could see using cached data, the domain was only listed for $888 Buy It now!
Microsoft
Hand registered the domain names PublicSector365.com/.net, MicrosoftAdvertisingPros.com/.net and MicrosoftAdvertisingProfessional.com/.net . They also registered BingDecisions.net and BigParkStudios.com/.net
Appears to have purchased the domain name Gmail.tv at Sedo for $1,827 USD. Whois currently shows DNStination, Inc. which is a MarkMonitor service. Many companies use the service, including Google, so it is very likely that Google was the buyer. It cost about $1,500 to do a UDRP… so I’m guessing that Google felt this was a for sure route that would take less time and the reason behind the purchase instead of using UDRP.
Allstate
Hand registered a large amount of domain names that included a mix of different terms. Some of those include: TaginApp.com, AllstateMobi.com, AllstateMobiApp.com (s), AllstateMobileWeb.com, AllstateMobileWebsite.com and AllstateCompetition.com (s). AllstateChallenges.com, AllstateInsuranceFraud.com and AllstateTrafficSafety.com were a few more they picked up.
TaylorMade Golf Company
Hand registered the domain name EquipmentForYourBody.com and MaybeTheyKnew.com. They also registered MaximumTaylorMade.com
Jockey
Appears to have acquired the domain name ComfortSpecialist.com in a PendingDelete drop auction. The domain name dropped 4/18/2011 but I’m not sure if there were more than 1 bidders to create an auction or not.
J. C. Penny
Used Coperate Domains buying service, which uses the "secret buyer" name "Jack Spurr" and purchased the domain name FindMore.com from BuyDomains. I had pointed out FindMore.com in early April but now we know Jc Penny was behind the purchase using "Jack Spurr". I still wasn’t able to dig up a sales price.
The Tire Rack
Hand registered the domain name ZipCarTires.com

Tony

It’s a great time to be a domainer.
