I was watching a little TV yesterday and this was at least the 2nd time I have seen this FreeTripleScore.com TV commercial and was like WTF? So I stopped the TV via DVR and pulled out my video recorder so you could see what I mean.

So the people in the commercial keep saying FreeTripleScore.com but on the bottom of the screen keeps showing FreeTripleScore70.com ?

Not once was the 70 added with any of the speaking people!

Both domains are owned by the same company according to Whois. Adaptive Marketing

FreeTripleScore70.com forwards to FreeTripleScore.com but to a different page then if you were to directly visit FreeTripleScore.com .

It’s all just odd if you ask me!

    Jamie,

Its a way companies track TV advertising. This has been around for a long time. Many companies use it in smaller markets to track responses to local TV ad buys. Its odd and kinda backwards but its a challenge to track ROI for traditional media as it is and this is one method that does help some advertisers.

Many companies add “Companyurl(insert #) .com” with each number representing an ad buy. Sometimes it matches voice, sometimes it doesn’t. Much cheaper to change text on the url showing than record different voiceovers for each ad.

    FreeTripleScore91.com
    FreeTripleScore71.com

just randomly picked these – all the same – my guess is 1-99 are gone and are simply tracking url’s

Yep… just tracking URLs. Pretty much only the way to do it with a TV commercial. It’s sort of like the people that run PPC campaigns and make sure they do everything they can to get the correct stats (not mix it with natural stats/other stats) to see if the keywords convert properly and/or if they are just wasting money on a campaign.

Exactly, alot of the companies simply use subdomains or /folders to track, but this company had some serious cash to spare I guess… It makes no sense why they would do a separate domain instead of a subdomain lol

I think they use a full domain instead of a subdomain or /folder to avoid confusion and/or curious customers.

91.FreeTripleScore.com will confuse people who aren’t tech savvy.

FreeTripleScore.com/91 may also confuse people, and those that it doesn’t confuse may just type FreeTripleScore.com instead.

I think FreeTripleScore91.com has the best chance for people to follow through with typing it in.

I personally would rather see a totally different call to action domain used like: CheckYourScore.com etc if they wish to track. Seems to make more sense.
I think it would also be wise to say the domain they wish to track and not use two different ones in the same commercial. They keep saying FreeTripleScore.com and keep showing it with the signboard, so the tracking isn’t going to be right in this commercial since they are saying and showing one domain, while showing another as well.

Yup, just a tracking URL for testing conversion for different marketing campaigns.

It would be interesting to see what % of people actually type in the 70 at the end rather than just the regular URL.

It would also be interesting to see if directing people to just one URL and then using a unique coupon code to track campaigns would work better. I imagine that it would (and it would strengthen the branding of the URL) but I haven’t personally tested this or heard of anyone that has.

The first time I saw this, I was waiting for the joke at the end. Then I was bugged out, because this was shot in my neighborhood in Long Beach.

This is one of those commercials that is so bad, I actually felt sorry for the “agency” that came up with it. However, that pity quickly faded to anger, because this ad is always on TV! It annoyed me so much, that I just changed the channel to get away from it, and 10 min later it comes on another channel. I had to mute the TV!

This is clearly the most annoying spot on television. Folowed closely behind by Subway ($5 foot long), 1-800-DENTIST, and ESurance.com.

To whomever came up with this ad: Congratulations, you’re a super-hack!

Annoying works – you remember the site right? Thats the entire goal of any marketing campaign.

They got you! 1-0 for advertisers.

Annoying may make you remember the name, but if it makes you wanna take an icepick to whoever MADE the annoying commercial, its not a good thing. In fact, my girlfriend and I have made a point to boycott any product with an annoying ad.
