Here is another one of my postings that I like to do from time to time. Basically what’s on my mind, but each topic is not long enough to cover in a "normal" full posting. Here we go…
~ The Travel Channel is using the call-to-action domain name, iHaveTheBug.com to promote a site during one of it’s commercials on The Travel Channel. I visited it, but didn’t really understand the message behind it. The site is majority Flash, which I am not a fan of. I understand the meaning behind the domain name, just not the "12" steps at the site. The site is a slow loader, I’m sure due to the flash design.
~ Elliot Silver over at ElliotsBlog.com had a nice tip about Google.com’s free tool called Local Business Center they offer. If you happen to offer a local service or product, I would suggest signing up and posting your business / website. Your listing will mainly show up on Google when a user searches for Geo Term / Service or Product. Example: Green Bay Plumber or Plumber Green Bay etc. If you happen to be a plumber in Green Bay, Wisconsin and use the Local Business Center, your chances of somebody finding you will greatly increase. Be sure to use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool to find out what people are searching for, so your keywords are correctly used.
~ The American Cancer Society® is also advertising with a pretty unique and catchy domain name. MoreBirthdays.com . The message is about beating cancer and living longer, which equals More Birthdays! With losing several of my family members to cancer and a great deal of my wife’s family to cancer… I know we would of enjoyed More Birthdays with all of them! ACS also owns the great domain name Cancer.org and uses that for it’s main site. This is just further proof that you do not need to stick with one site or one domain name. MoreBirthdays.com is a strong message and is a great campaign.
~ Some of you may have noticed the new Favicon in your Favorites or simply in your browser bar for DotWeekly.com
. If you use Wordpress, here is what I did to add the Favicon to my site.
- Create a small image that reflects your logo or site in some way. Keep it Small and some what square. I used Adobe Illustrator and saved it as a JPG.
- Then I used Dynamic Drive Favicon Generator to create the .ico icon format. Download the image to your computer and save it.
- Using my Filezilla FTP Client, I loaded the file to my wp-content folder for my site at my hosting provider. I tried to add it directly to my root folder but I could not for some reason as I kept getting an error that the file didn’t transfer. So that’s why I put it in the wp-content section. The different location, just equals different code in the next step.
- Then logged into my Wordpress backend and clicked on the the Appearance / Editor. I then clicked on the Header.php file. Between the <head> and </head> I put in the following code: <link rel="icon" href="/wp-content/favicon.ico" />
You can place the code just about any place as long as it’s before the </head> Then click save and visit your site. You may need to refresh for it to show up. If you are able to add the .ico icon to your root folder, then use this code:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico">
~ Using a Favicon will help people easier find your site in all their favorites. I have been meaning to do this for awhile now and had tried but couldn’t get it to work.. that is until now! You will notice from the backend of your site, that the Favicon doesn’t work.. why, I’m not sure, but your readers can still see it!
~ So far, it seems like my new little system that I created is working. I got offers at Sedo and contact offers with the form provided on a couple domains. So a promising start with the new addition. No uses of the Afternic link from what I can tell, so that may need to go or be changed a bit.

Excellent tip about setting up the favicon. Just used it for LostBlog.com. Thanks!
