When I first started DotWeekly.com it was for me to reach out to those in need of learning about domain names, the internet, marketing, web development and the general power that your domain name holds. Very few are aware of the power of a domain name and the affects it can have with your website and or the business behind it.
As DotWeekly comes upon it’s 2 years of teaching and trying to help as much as I can, I am starting to notice some of my frustrations of reaching the readers who really need the help many of my articles are written for!
A lot of it has to do with the reasons there site are not providing the help there business needs. KEYWORDS
The internet is run based on keywords and information is found on the internet by keywords.
I have learned more during the past 2 years of writing on how to focus certain keywords to reach the readers I have always been trying to reach by thinking back to ways I searched to learn about a certain topic or interest I had. There is always the problem of the user themselves not looking in the right places or searching the proper terms to find the answer they have been looking for. This is clearly frustrating to somebody like me and many businesses and services that offer a vast range of information that could really help.
Sadly, I really do not think this will ever change. Finding the right answer when your looking for something totally different than you should be, is common! Connecting the dots does not always happen.
I think of some people that I have talked to before, just in general about there web presence. Most are unhappy with the traffic they receive to there site, the sales they are making (lack of for most) and the simple fact that people can not "find them in search engines".
I spoke with one company and he said he couldn’t even find his own company in search engines and he knew what he was looking for. Now how was somebody that was looking in general for what his company offered.. clearly they wouldn’t be able to find his company either!
He blamed it on his "SEO guy" and he was getting a new one who was charging like $500 a month! I just shook my head but he felt this "SEO guy" was the answer to his site improving…. likely not the case sadly because this "SEO guy" is more focused on cashing in the $500 a month check and moving onto the next guy.
I explained to him the basics for free face to face, told him about DotWeekly and to stop on by but it was up to him to visit and search around. DotWeekly is FREE. He never visited DotWeekly and I still can’t find his site in the search engines. I’m sure his sales are still lacking as are his visitors.
As a writer, it get’s frustrating when you offer the help, but people are looking in wrong places or simply do not apply what you offer as help.
Teaching somebody about domain names is hard to do when they have no clue what one is, nor would they know of searching for it. Most know they need one but put more focus on spending $10 to get one other than understanding what makes a good one!
Teaching somebody about SEO and using proper keywords in specific sections of there sites is hard to do when they have no clue what SEO is or lack the knowledge that the internet is run by keywords.
These are also likely the people that search the net themselves and really never think the reason why they found what they did when they searched for what they did.
Have passion for what you do! Think outside the box! Learn everyday and keep an open mind. If you have questions, ask. Paying for something will not always give you the results you wanted.

Huge difference between site and blog. It’s easy with a blog. You are writing with keywords whether you know it or not. You are updating it every day which google loves. Do this over time and it’s impossible to not grow. Making money is a different beast and so is a site. That takes more work. Good article

Thanks for the comment Shane. I agree there is a huge difference between a site and a blog and the reason I think every site should have a blog which can and does help promote your site.
Making money for a site is not easy at all and I agree, that is a totally whole new animal.

One thing business owners need to understand is it will most likely be easier to start from scratch on a great domain.
But try telling them that.
On the flip side it creates opportunity to rank for almost anything you can think of.
And thats a good thing.

It’s very hard to reach readers. I’d say that patient is big part of running online site, no matter if is website or blog. I try with many different method to get indexed, and after many months got great results. Everything takes time!

You pointed right, like usually, Jamie
Its like an ethernal “chinese great wall” between the domainers and the end users.
We have knowledges and they have the cash.
Anyway, your doing a god job, man.
Your DOTWeekly its a very fine “tool” and reference for me, still a newbie.
Thanks
