I normally cover "TV Ads" and the domain names used, good or bad and generally my thoughts on them. Well, today is a little different as the ad comes in the form of a radio ad spot from Citgo® using the term FuelingGood.com for the domain name.

I always express the importance of your domain name used in ads to:

  • Look Good (easy to spell)
  • Make Sense (match the point of your ad)
  • Clear (when heard or said)

Doing the above will allow you to advertise your domain name and campaign on TV, Radio and Print with no problems. The people that see it, it will be clear and make sense to them. If they hear the term by word of mouth or in audio form, they could easily visit the website and remember the domain used in the ad.

Fueling…

Kind of an odd term and not only we hear every day. Fuel, yes, Fueling.. not so much but since they sell fuel, I can see where they are going.

Hearing the term Fueling on the radio… almost comes across as "Feeling". Add in the term "Good" after "Fueling" and it sounds even more like a term we all hear fairly often: Feeling Good

With Citgo’s® new radio ad spot, they missed the ball a little bit for me. I hear Fueling, but it makes me think Feeling Good, not F U E L ing Good.. I think this could be a problem for them and may be sending visitors to FeelingGood.com instead of their site FuelingGood.com .

FuelingGood.com By Citgo

I like the campaign idea. It kind of reminds me of the RefreshEverything.com project run by Pepsi, Co. that I covered not all that long ago but the term Fueling Good® is one of those terms that is not very clear when heard.

Check out the site, as it is a cool idea. Here is a link, so you visit the right site FuelingGood.com instead of FeelingGood.com ;)

Domain Info:

FuelingGood.com was registered on June 6, 2008 by a "Alamo Studios" who is a creative firm hired by Citgo. (another word to the wise, always own your domain name… just because you are paying an ad company to do it.. you still should own the domain and have it in your control)

The domain name was registered prior to 2008 but dropped after 2007. It appears around 10/11/2008 the domain name sold at Sedo and changed ownership to Alamo Studios in Jan 2009.

Search Engines. Alamo Studio’s is doing an OUTSTANDING job getting the site ranking.. using the domain name as a search term, fuelinggood.com at Google.com will display the site ranking the first 7 natural spots, including an 8th paid position at the very top. Very good! The first 5 positions are for the site itself. The 6 & 7th are social network sites Twitter and Facebook.

FuelingGood.com Search Engine Ranks

A natural search for fueling good gives the site the 3 top natural positions on Google. Another great thing!

FeelingGood.com is owned by a doctor and has nothing to do with "Fuel"
