This is going to be a quick post, but just to further prove a point that Direct Naviagation is real and happens daily.

This morning on Regis and Kelly TV show they talked of a website that allows you to virturaly see what your kid would look like if you had one.

They called it the BabyMaker. I didn’t watch the show, so I am not sure if they gave out the URL of the site, but I assume they did. So what were people searching for on the net then?

Baby Maker Google Trends

This shows both searches for Baby Maker, BabyMaker.com and ABabyMaker.com. Not only did these people searching on the net type into a search engine the domain they THOUGHT the site would be on, I’m sure many skipped the search engine and visited both BabyMaker.com (which is a parked page) and ABabyMaker.com which is a small site. Both not what the searches were looking for…

The Actual site people were / are looking for is http://www.luxand.com/babymaker/

This proves a lot of points I express all the time nearly all into one posting.

If you are talking about a Baby Maker, you should own the matching domain name BabyMaker.com as that is what a lot of people will visit (direct navigation). It also means a lot of people will Search for it on search engines. Owning the matching domain will greatly help for SEO and SERP’s.

Searches even added an A to BabyMaker.com to make it ABabyMaker.com again with no luck finding what they are looking for.

I can bet not many if any would remember Luxand.com/babymaker

Since the sites domain Luxand.com has nothing to do with a Baby Maker, it simply has a page called Baby Maker.

In the perfect world, Luxand.com would own BabyMaker.com and use Domain Name forwarding and forward BabyMaker.com TO http://www.luxand.com/babymaker/ so it’s easier for user to find and easier for luxand.com to explain.

Why? If your message is talking about "Baby Maker", it is very wise to own the exact match domain because that is what people visit. Although Luxand.com/babymaker was likely explained when they talked about it…. the thing that people were most interested in was the "Baby Maker" term and what they went looking for.

Missed traffic = Missed sales.
