GM has teamed up with Segway and are rolling out The Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility vehicle in a joint venture. Called the PUMA.
So as natural, I checked out GmPuma.com … Go figure, the domain name was registered today (4-7-2009) with Whois Privacy and it’s Highly unlikely to be GM or Segway behind the ownership of the domain name!
Most of the time when a product is "named", a company can get very creative and come up with a unique name. Company names normally get dropped after the launch and the product goes by a "name". In this case, PUMA.
Well, as many of us know Puma happens to be a very popular shoe line / clothing line. They also own the domain name Puma.com . They are also likely going to see a big surge in traffic today and as long as this new little car is popular!
I also checked out SegwayPuma.com which also happened to be registered today to a "Juan Alcantara" according to Whois.sc . This domain name is also parked with a bunch of "airline ads" from what I can tell.
The current 2 passenger car GM / Segway PUMA is simply a prototype but I’m sure will be launched at some point. Image Source
I think a better "name" should of been picked and it very well can or may change. PUMA is a Shoe, not a car! Plus people are going to own the thing that do not live in "Urban" area’s. GM is calling it the PUMA Project.
Currently, the PUMA can go 35 miles and costs about 35 cents to recharge.
