Here is the latest GoDaddy.com home page redesign which includes an "Activate" button that made me wonder what the heck is that all about! You will also find below a video from Domainfest 2010 by CNN that covered the domain name auction. I saw the video yesterday on ChefPatrick.com but one thing that interested me in the video is below!

First, here is the GoDaddy new home page redesign! Danica Patrick gets BIGGER and moves from left to right is likely the first thing you will notice.

New GoDaddy.com Home Page Redesign with Activate Button

The "Activate" button is new! So what does it do? Send your domain name to #1 on Google? Nope! Basically, "Activate" is the new term for upselling I guess. Clicking the Activate button and selecting from any of your currently registered domain names once logged in at GoDaddy and you can add paid email, website hosting or a shopping cart. That is what the new activate button on the home page does. Interesting..

The new tag line "Turbocharge Your Business, Achieve Your Goals, Share Your Success".

You will see some new text and fonts with the SSL sale, Web Hosting and the Commercial Contest a well. The three video’s were added last week and talk about what GoDaddy offers and what they can do for you.

I like the look but what where they thinking with the Activate button?

Domainfest CNN Coverage

Absent blogger after "getting a real job", Chef Patrick posted a nice video from CNN Money that covered the Domainfest domain auction in New York. Great video really!

One thing I want you to watch and listen for that  grabbed my attention is when they speak to the winning bidder of NewYorkApartments.com .

The winning bid was $65,000 USD in the auction. Did you hear what they "would have paid"?

$200,000 – $250,000 USD for the domain! Ouch to the seller if they heard that. Would have, could have, should have is always different than actually doing it but it sounds as the domain likely may have sold for a much higher amount if another bidder had the same interest they did! One bad thing about auction formats, it takes more than one interested party to make the price climb. $195,000 price difference??? You never know!

This really is a great video for the domain industry, so pass it around if you can.

What do you think of the home page redesign at Godaddy? How was the video and do you think NewYorkApartments.com could be a $250,000 domain?

When the deed is done and they got it for $65k and they were in front a CNN camera, of course they would talk big to make their company or clients sound big. Just the natural thing to do in America. Sound bigger than you really are.
