Many domain owners use the very popular Google Adwords Keyword Tool and live and die based on the metrics provided by this free tool. It can greatly help you focus on search volumes to help you decide if a certain keyword set is right for the domain name you use. IMO, this tool is very valuable when it comes to domain names and can greatly assist you in picking the right one!
Well, Google has rolled out a Beta Version of the the same keyword tool but with many new features!
The beta version is loaded with new goodies and focuses on several new trends like Mobile Search. If you click the Advanced Options, you can choose by Location, Language, Mobile Search and Categories.
Another option that is new, is you can search based on Domain Name (website). This allows you to tap into data from an existing site that may be your competitor or you could focus on successful sites for specific keyword terms you wish to focus on to see what they are doing and what is working for them. You can also use the new beta version and simply search by Category.

Check it out by visiting the old tool and then clicking on the Beta Version link at the top of the screen or by using the second link provided above. Let me know what you think of the new beta version. I haven’t played around with it much yet but wanted to let you know of it.

I am starting to wonder what seo website(s) I can stop paying monthly subscription fees for because Google is giving me some of this private database metrics for free.
I am having fun exploring new system and toggling back between old and new interfaces….sometimes less is more….but too early to tell yet for me.
Jamie, hope you highlight some stuff shortly so we all can compare notes….I know this is step one.

Even in the old version you could do a domain name version–just put it in as the phrase, for example, dotweekly com.
Haven’t tried the beta yet.

Jmho but it looks like the new tool layout is formatted to frustrate ubot scripts. For example, requiring a captcha before getting to the main screen.

And furthermore, it’s probably done in AJAX (99% certain) which furthermore frustrates any possibilities of querying via a URL string. I get the tools are just cringing at this becoming the standard…
