Google.com clearly offers massive amounts of helpful tools and one that I am going to write a little bit about is the Webmaster Tools . Once logged in, go to the HOME section and ADD a site. In order to get verified, you will need to add a small line of code to your <head> section. After you insert the code, go back to the Google page and click Verify.
Upon clicking verify, you will start seeing helpful data appear. This helpful data shows Rank Placement for specific keywords from your site and the terms people use to find your site. One of the biggest helps and time savers is Google shows you Where you rank for the specific term, 1, 4, 20 etc.
I advise to checkout anything that ranks in the Top 10 and learn from those! The more things you have ranking in the top 5 returns Google displays is GREAT! The more popular the search term, all the better! Really look over these specific items that you have a high ranking for and KNOW why they are there!
Google offers several other "checks" like Links, Keywords, Subscriptions which can all be vital stats. Several of these may take some time, so they will likely be displayed later on when or if you check back.
You can also run Diagnostics for a specific site, which includes Crawl Errors, Crawl Stats, HTML suggestions.
Under the Labs tab, you can get a site performance test run, Fetch as Googlebot and Malware details. The page speed suggestions are very helpful under the performance test and can greatly help improve your load times.
