A free tool that I use often is Google Trends Labs, which tracks the most popular searches on the search engine Google.com every hour and displays the top 100 searches.

I had noticed yesterday that Google has taken away 60% of the Trends results. Instead of displaying the normal 100 most popular search results for the hour, they now only display the top 40 search results.

As with anything, something is better then nothing… but it sucks that Google removed over half of the data that they displayed in the past. This takes away a great deal of valuable information every hour of each day that once was displayed.

Trends are important to watch for domainers as you can discover some interesting data into a new product, service or other general data that can turn into a valuable domain purchase before it really becomes "news".

As a blog writer, Google Trends often helped me with ideas on what to write about as well. It made me do some digging and try and find the reason so many people were searching for that specific term, which often lead into some interesting stories.

Well, I just wanted to let you know that Google Trends is 60% of what it use to be ;) at least for now. Google often makes changes with little to no warning, so it could also go back up to 100 at some point, but I wouldn’t count on it.
