I was over at GoDaddy.com and looking at some auctions and noticed IMBD.co that is currently on auction and the bid price was already at $5,505 on 17 bids for the no reserve auction.
The bid price is interesting to me and so is the brief statement by the owner of the domain for an auction description:
This site is currently getting 300 unique visits a day from USA, Canada, And the United Kingdom.

300 Uniques A Day is pretty good for a domain name registered less than 1 month ago on July 21, 2010 but if this is actually the case….. It is showing that .co domains are getting typo traffic off popular sites, considering IMDB.com is a popular internet movie database site but that is still a typo to that because the domain is IMBD.co.
I wasn’t aware that Default Registration GoDaddy parked pages offered traffic stats???? Interesting.

So.. that 300 uniques per day, not likely the case because default pages put up by GoDaddy when registering a domain name do not offer any stats to the domain owner to know if the domain is getting any traffic at all. Here is the whois showing domain name servers as well.

“..considering IMBD.com is a popular internet movie database site.”
Actually, the correct address is IMDB.com.
IMBD.com is just another parked page so something is really fishy about that auction. No person in his right mind would pay $5k for a .co domain that isn’t even a direct typo of a huge .com domain.

I made the typo when referring to IMDB.com
Not enough coffee yet. I made the correction and made it more clear that the domain is even a typo to the popular IMDB.com site. I agree though, very fishy.

Ahhh gotcha Jamie

Could it be that a simple, apparently not substantiated statement about traffic triggered all the bidding?
Jamie Zoch
@Osy,
Really hard to say, but stating the domain gets about 15,000 uniques a month wouldn’t hurt it if people didn’t check into it. Once a couple bids start coming in, it could be a snowball effect as the domain gets more attention. Bids do not always equal a sale so I will have to keep an eye on it and see what happens.

Expensive cybersquatting domain?

That’s what I’m thinking too, Ms Domainer

A new bidder has joined the mix and the domain is now up to $6,000 with 4 days to go!
Jamie Zoch
$6,505 on 32 bids with 2 days left in the auction. 4 bidders in the action now!
