Good old FOX News sure brings in the advertisers that enjoy using confusing domain names in the ads they run! You might remember me writing about Tax Masters and the ugly & confusing (going to look for the domain again…) Txmstr.com home made acronym used by the company for it’s domain name!

Well, while watching a little FOX News today during lunch, another home made acronym appeared in an ad for Imperial Structured Settlements in the form of Imprl.com . I would only assume the I M P R L is "their" way to "shorten up" Imperial thinking that shorter is better, other then being clear and to the point with the domain in the ad!

To be even more confusing to those who decide to search for the company, a search for the term imperial structured settlements returns an exact match domain #1 on Google. Still sharp in my mind and visiting the #1 rank on Google, the Logo is the exact same to the one on TV, but different on it’s website Imprl.com.. Oh yah, that’s because the domain used in the ad was imprl.com and not ImperialStructuredSettlements.com… this must be a different company or something!

According to Whois Records:

imprl.com is owned by Imperial Finance & Trading

ImperialStructuredSettlements.com is also owned by Imperial Finance & Trading

So they appear to be owned by the same company according to whois… but in the ad on TV, they used this logo:

Imperial Logo

Keep in mind the domain used in the TV ad was imprl.com, but on the domain name they used in the ad, they use a different logo on the site..

Imperial imprl.com logo

Talk about confusing… The logo used in the ad is on ImperialStructuredSettlements.com but the logo is different on the imprl.com site used in the ad . Imperial Structured Settlements search term results in a number one ranking on Google for ImperialStructuredSettlements.com, which they should of used in the TV ad! Matching Logo, Matching Domain!

I can understand the use of a "different" domain in an ad for tracking purposes, but why be confusing with that domain and use a made up acronym that is going to be hard for people to remember. Then even more confusing, use a different logo on the site then in the ad, but have the logo used in the ad on a different domain that matches your company name exactly on a Google search.

According to Compete.com, imprl.com get’s 257 US visitors per month.

The longer exact match domain gets nearly 3,000 per month.
