I always like to dig into things a little deeper than most because it often brings to light some things we may not notice just by looking at something. So, today I wanted to do a little bit of digging and get some stats on domain names that are currently in the Pre-Release section on NameJet.com.

Here are some things that I found:

Amount of Domain / Amount of Bidders

329,843 Pre-Release domain names were listed at the time of my search

85 "Pages" of the domain names had at least 1 pre bid. The default setting is 25 domains per page

Those "85 pages" resulted in 2,112 domain names with at least one bid.

This resulted in 327,731 domain names with no bid.

This means 0.64% of the domain names have bids

Of the 2,112 domains with at least 1 bid, 7 had bids by 100 or more people and one domain had 207 bids total

98 domain names had 20-94 bidders

710 domain names had 2-19 bidders

1,294 domain names had 1 bidder

Amount Of Domains Going To Auction Per Day

  • 140 domains with Pre-Release bids "go to auction" today 7/31 at time of posting
  • 157 domains with Pre-Release bids "go to auction" tomorrow 8/1 at time of posting
  • 93 domains with Pre-Release bids "go to auction" on 8/2 at time of posting
  • 79 domains with Pre-Release bids "go to auction" on 8/3 at time of posting

I think it is fair to say by looking at these numbers that the closer to auction day… the bidder numbers increase on the amount Pre-Release domains.

If each of these 2,112 domains were to end with only 1 bid at the minimum $69 bid amount, that would result in $145,728. We all know it is pretty rare that these domains end with only 1 bid. Many do, but most do not.

Domain Age (Creation Date)

The oldest domain name is registered with Network Solutions and holds a creation date of 1991. The domain is a Molres.org. That domain has 1 bid. There are a total of 22 domain names created from 1995-1991. Of those 22, 21 are .com domains with one of those being a hyphenated domain Webster-Hall.com .

318 domains are aged from 96-98.

167 domains were registered in 1999.

24% of the Pre-Release domain names with at least one bid are aged from 1999 to 1991.

Domain Length

The longest domain name with a bid is 30 characters not including .tld. That domain is PittsburghSuperComputingCenter.com with 1 bid.

53 domains are 3 character (include LLL,CCC etc) domains.

199 domains are 4 character domains.

112 domains are 5 character domains.

105 domains are 6 character domains.

126 domains are 7 character domains.

170 domains are 8 character domains.

178 domains are 9 character domains.

156 domains are 10 character domains.

1,013 domain names are between 11 characters and 30 characters.
