So many things to talk about….
~ Bill Sweetman from Tucows admits that Tucows simply keeps some domain names after they expire and the customer doesn’t renew. They do not even send them to auction because THEY want them. No kidding, who wouldn’t. Meaning they can get LLL.com’s for $6.35 or CVCV.com’s for $6.35 or one word generics for $6.35. Warehousing at it’s best IMO. The thing that upsets me the most about this, is as an investor and the general public has ZERO chance to obtain the domain unless you pay Tucows Big Bucks and buy it from them out of their portfolio.
We all know other registrars are doing this (register.com amung others), but to Admit it is another thing. Read the Comment’s here and read what Bill had to say. ICANN has to do something about this, because one day, registrars are going to hold ALL the gems and leave the general public with Nothing, unless they buy from their portfolio!
~ I was talking with Jonathan from SnapNames.com yesterday and he is Swamped. He is the lone solider that deals with Portfolio Sales and he said he is currently managing 180 accounts. So anybody that has a question or is submitting domains for sale on SnapNames all go to him. He stated they are addressing this and getting the help from Moniker Reps. So if you didn’t get an email from your Moniker Rep, you will be soon.
~ I have a new site idea, but the development cost is going to be $4,000 usd and monthly hosting with multiple servers is going to be about $300 per month. I really want to do it, but I am just not sure I can cover the costs and make it "worth it". The monthly fee’s for users would be about $19.95 and I really think people would use it with a little teaching from me. Currently there are two providers of the service, so the comp is not very high. One is Very Expensive and the other is cheaper, but not the best system and is not known. I went to the best person I could think of to do the site and that’s why the cost is so high, but I know 100% the site will work perfect, be fast and 99.9% automatic from my standpoint and the users would be super happy. The biggest question I have is taking the risk of the $4K development investment and the monthly cost of $300. What do you think?
~ Monday I head back to the dentist for round number 2. I will have all my final crowns put on and have all my "silver filings" removed and replace with the new white kind. So another 6-7 hours in the chair. So much FUN!! lol So I will be MIA again and this time I will be out almost all of next week. Thursday I have a wisdom tooth removed that has a sist by it. So when I heal up from the first round of the crowns and filling, I will be having the wisdom tooth yanked out, which should finish me off for the rest of next week!
~ Some of you might of noticed, but my RSS feed in the upper right was not working when I switched to WP 2.5 . That is back fixed. A thank you goes out to Michael Castello for pointing it out to me last week. The Feedburner should be fixed pretty soon as well.
~ Soon I will be using Camtasia and posting some Screen Capture videos of How To’s, so I am really excited about doing that. I think all the readers of DotWeekly will sure get there monies worth… Oh Yah, DotWeekly is crazy free, that right. lol The software is $300 so I just have to spend the money, and get a headset with a mic so I can do it. I hope to pick it up one of these days soon.
Ok you are probally tired of reading all this so I will stop and get back to finding some more tricks that I can post.

regarding your new site idea
“The biggest question I have is taking the risk of the $4K development investment and the monthly cost of $300. What do you think?”
I would have to talk the concept through with friends, family or other trusted colleagues before I would go ahead.
It is very easy to convince ourselves something is a great idea but convincing others is the tricky bit especially when there is a monthly fee.
Take your time and talk it though is all I can suggest.
Good luck
