Hi Jamie,

Some great advice. I've also heard a lot over the last 6 months about Google increasing their reliance on exact match domains.

However, considering the success of non-keyword-rich domains such Amazon, eBay and BBC, exact-match domains can only have so much effect on SEO, perhaps a nice thing to have 'if all other things are equal'.

But all other things are rarely equal, and any business choosing a domain name need to weigh the benefits of appearing high for a keyword-rich but long and amateur-looking domain, versus the benefits of appearing lower with a less keyword-rich domain but credible and professional-looking domain.

Cheers,
Alan

Great article Jamie, someone like AOL or Yahoo should buy your blog and let you write daily. Your articles would really benefit their readers IMO. Always interesting for those who are not in the biz.

For example: if I own xxxx.com and you already have xxxx.net(org) and it is drawing traffic/money, I can tell you that I am going to emulate what your site is doing.

Just a thought.

dot com is KING!!!

Thanks Morgan, I some what agree about the other TLD's but .com will always be King and the reason they almost always sell higher and are most used. If your budget doesn't fit for the .com, .net and other TLD's are an option but keep in mind if the .com is developed, you will likely get beat out now or later.

Great point Jamie and a concept we've seen proved time and time again. I've built my business with keyword-rich domains as the centerpiece.

There are a lot of opportunities in the .net, .org, and .us TLD's that can easily rank on the first page of Google/Yahoo and bring strong traffic and revenue for a VERY small investment!
