I love call to action domain names and mainly because of there sheer power for make sense marketing! You do not have to be some huge company in order to use one either! The call to action part of it comes in the message the domain name has.

Let’s take the domain name ViewMyHome.com for an example because I saw the domain in a public auction over at GoDaddy Auctions and it grabbed my eye due to its marketing power in real estate.

Call to action advertising with domain names! ViewMyHome.com

  • Call to action? view home by visiting the domain
  • Where to use? For Sale Sign, print advertising (real estate type magazines / papers)
  • By who? Realtor®, home owner
  • Reason for using? Highlighting a home for sale with easy access to view it (pictures, video) inside and out without needing an appointment

Picture a real estate sign outside of a house for sale. No matter if it’s listed by a real estate company or the homes owner, ViewMyHome.com is a powerful message that doesn’t need any explaining to the person seeing! When a potential customer sees ViewMyHome.com driving by, it get’s personal (my = putting a face (in a way) with the home) and secondly, it easily allows interested parties to view the home inside and out from the comfort of a computer when they wish by visiting the domain name!

Why use a call to action domain?

ViewMyHome.com is eye catching because it relates to the home being for sale, while providing an easy way for an interested party to view inside the home without making an appointment, making a phone call etc. Secondly, it’s EASY to remember for those driving by in the seconds they have to see it and store it in there memory!

Why not just use CompanyXYZ.com on the sign? Can be harder to remember. You lose the "personal" touch. You lose the ease of seeing the exact house only!

The Site

What to do with "the site" that viewers will land at when going to ViewMyHome.com?

A simply 301 redirect which is almost always free at a domain name registrar to the location of your homes listing on your Realtors website. If your Realtor doesn’t do it (use a call to action domain), take it upon yourself!

Option 2, take pictures of your home from top to bottom and put up a site using WordPress, Blogger.com etc.

Option 3, set up a Flickr.com account and 301 redirect (forward) the domain name to the accounts URL on Flickr.

The domain

ViewMyHome.com is the only ViewMyHome.com and if you were lucky enough to join in the auction I was talking about above.. it may cost you a couple hundred for the domain. Sometimes, there is only ONE perfect call to action domain and if somebody already owns it, use whois.domaintools.com and contact the owner to see if you can purchase it if that’s the only one you could or want to use. (Note: No, they are not a "squatter" (in most cases) if they simply own the domain. Domains are like real estate. The land is owned by somebody, often time an investor!)

The nice thing about most call to action domains is you have options. ViewMyHome.com "could be" ViewMyHouse.com or SeeMyHouse.com or ViewInside.com etc will all get the job done! You want to stay short and to the point. Make sure the domain is clearly displayed, easy to spell and easy to remember! Do not lose the call to action part of the domain. You are telling the viewer of the domain name what they are getting before they even visit the domain name, and do you have to explain what they will see when they do visit.

Call to action domain names like RentMe.com on a sign outside of an apartment or duplex are POWERFUL! Do not confuse the viewer of the domain. Keep the domain specific to what they saw the domain with. Adding a number or using an acronym with a saying is a Bad Idea! Don’t be afraid to spend a little money on a great call to action domain name that can be used, because they can be extremely effective and very easy to use!

I hope this explains a little bit about call to action domain names for advertising, while providing an example of how to use one! Any questions, feel free to ask!

I think that good call to action domains and tagline domains are the perfect compliment to QR codes. QR codes are very powerful, however many people miss them because of time or distance. If they can be complimented with great, even generic call to actions or taglines, that are not too long and are familiar and memorable then that could be a boon for advertisers. I guess if an adertizing firm could secure say seeral hundred taglines or call to action domains (what a dream) then that would be worth a fortune to them.
