With Windows 7 rolled out, Microsoft dug into it’s bag of premium domain names and pulled out Windows.com to help promote the new Windows 7 OS.

Microsoft is running several different TV spots and most of them include Windows.com in the ads!

I am happy to see that Microsoft is using Windows.com in it’s ads. People visiting the Windows.com domain name are forwarded to a page on Microsoft.com specifically for Windows 7.

The actual URL is http://www.microsoft.com/windows/default.aspx?icid=winvan

In some way I would rather see Microsoft using the domain Windows7.com, but clearly Windows 7 is a Windows product and using Windows.com makes a bunch of clear sense to use it.

Microsoft does own Windows7.com and has since about 2006.

Windows7.com is also using domain name forwarding and sends visitors to the Microsoft.com domain. The actual URL is http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/?icid=win7van which is a different page than the Windows.com visitors see.

My 6+ year old Sony Vaio desk top is still running XP, so I think at some point this week I am going to purchase a new tower with all the new bells and whistles (mainly dual core and 4GB+ Memory is what I am looking forward to) and giving Windows 7 a try.

The one thing I am not looking forward to is transferring all the important data from this computer to the new one. This is something I have never done before, but I am aware of several different ways to do it, just not exactly sure which is the best.

Any go from XP to Windows 7 already? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on it so far.
