Yesterday I was kind enough to share a list of 103 available domain names that are currently listed on the MillionDollarHomepage.com . It took me a while to make up the list, let alone to think of the idea and then I shared it with my DotWeekly readers. The only thing that I asked for displaying the list was that if somebody were to register any of the available domains in the list, they use the simple Click And Register method provided via an affiliate link with Moniker.
So how many domains in the 103 list were registered since I posted the list yesterday afternoon? How many used the affiliate link? How many domains were registered with Moniker? Traffic to the article?
Here is some transparency, which may also "call out" some of those who decided…. "thanks for the list buddy, your not earning $0.31 off of me buddy!" but I wanted to share what it is like to be a site owner and money wise what it can be like when you help others.
103 domains listed, 15 domains were registered (at time of this post)
Of the 15 that were registered:
- 1 was with Moniker (thank you Paul)
- 6 were registered with Fabulous
- 6 were registered with Godaddy
- 2 were registered with Internetwire
The article I wrote yesterday about the available domains that are currently listed on MillionDollarHomepage.com received 599 unique visitors on DotWeekly (over 300 already today as well). Prep time for the article was about 1.5 hours. My Moniker affiliate account is reporting 591 views for yesterday (4/20/2010) and 131 so far today. I average about 15-30 views normally for my Moniker affiliate account.
Total Adsense earnings for yesterday site wide on DotWeekly was: $1.40 on two clicks.
Total unique visitors to DotWeekly.com yesterday was 1,970
The domain names that were registered include:
- ImagineAStory.com
- QnRetail.com
- PowerDatingTools.com
- DigiBusters.com
- ChallengeFootball.com
- FrutaDrink.com
- CashflowIsland.com
- ColemanSwimwear.com
- omegaMushrooms.com
- TheHostingIndex.net
- AnythingSeenOnTV.com
- RakeFish.com
- GiftbagIt.com
- GetAMentor.org
- Big10Pixels.com
I have expressed many times that I really enjoy helping people and is the reason behind why I write DotWeekly almost on a daily basis, free of charge. Clearly I have cut back a bit lately because being the nice guy and helping out all the time has been slowly catching up with me. I need to eat and feed my family too but when you earn $0.31 that doesn’t effect the monetary value of somebodies purchase and only 1 of 14 people use it, you can see how far it gets you (me).
Suggestions:
Be sure to simply THANK the bloggers from time to time if you use their sites. That can go a long way! (as my wife says, just because I said it now, doesn’t mean you can say it and mean it)
Click and use affiliate links and visit site owners sponsors. If not, things like Freshdrop.net will happen. (GoDaddy list was free but moved to pay)
Time is money and it takes a lot of time and money to offer something that is useful to people. Yes, many sites are free but it doesn’t hurt to show some love to the sites you like as well. I do not want this post to come across as a bitch fest, but one that puts you on the site owners side by providing the stats information that I did. (btw, no paid advertisers on DotWeekly (by choice due to uncertainty of continuing with the site) so the $1.41 + $0.31 was DotWeekly’s total earnings for yesterday. $1.72 .
Yes, some sites (mainly blogs, domaining.com etc) earn some money but many struggle to stay afloat. There are many reasons blogs and sites in general come and go but the fact is that many users of sites expect things for free, get it but yet most are well aware how affiliate links work and do not use them. See an ad and not click it, but visit the site via direct navigation seconds after leaving a site.
Help a site owner when you can, assuming they are "making money" is like assuming the site will still be up and still free the next time you visit.

I do feel bad for you because I enjoy your blog and posts (very informative).

Liked the post yesterday, didn’t buy any though. Bummer about the cheapskates out there…

Hi
I reged 6 at fab yesterday. As I don’t use moniker I didnt use your link. I like to keep all my domains at fab. However you have my word that if I get any decent sales out of any of the 6 I will gladly pay you a reasonable bonus.
Thanks for your thread, it was a really good one !

Thank you Andy, Troy and Mojito!

Hi,
I like to keep my domains all in one place (GoDaddy)so I registered a domain with them. But I do appreciate your effort and if you send me your PayPal email address I will give you a bonus.
Thank you
Sol
I just donated a small amount to show appreciation.
More will follow.
Jamie Zoch
@Sol,
Your donation raises the number of donations to DotWeekly at 5, lifetime.
Thank you for the donation, it is much appreciated! Feel free to use any of the Godaddy banners or links on DotWeekly, as that also shows the love and will help keep the $$$ in your pocket. Affiliate links are the way Godaddy and other companies allow me to promote its service and earn a little bit in return, yet prevents you from spending anything more than normal

I didn’t reg any, but if I had, I would never use Moniker. I dislike them with a passion. I have an account there only because of aftermarket business when one is FORCED to use them.
They charge for just about everything, and I prefer doing business with registrars that don’t nickel and dime me to death every time I need to do an action, like forwarding a domain.
Maybe you need better partners, like Domainmonster and maybe GoDaddy (who I use reluctantly, but at least they allow complete control of your domain and offer free email).
Most people here were not trying to be sneaky and cheap; it’s just that there may be myriad reasons why they don’t want to use Moniker.

Domainers are known penny pinchers, keep that in mind before you release any list for free.
As I have a $900 block on the Million Dollar Homepage (big white “A” against a black/red background on top right row) I was laughed at back in the day about my investment.
The truth is, an ad is a valid business expense which brought in traffic (and spam emails) for the past 4 1/2 years.
Thanks for the list though, it shows how temporary some investments can be.

@ Ms Domainer,
That is understandable for those who do not like or use Moniker or simply didn’t care. I could really only link them to one place and ask for people to do it, yet I think most domainers are well aware of how affiliate programs work and DotWeekly has a fair amount of GoDaddy affiliate links and banners around. Again, not something somebody should have to look for or do if they do not wish but some do that. If I do any more like it down the road, I will try and link them via GoDaddy and maybe explain a little bit better about how affiliate programs work for a site owner.

As for the Moniker pricing, I know when I started domaining I requested via Moniker to get a “NamePros” style account at Moniker. Pricing is lower, forwarding is free etc.

@Acro,
It is cool to hear from the side of an advertiser on the site. I figured many of the ads DO get clicks… because I visited the site several times and randomly just clicked! May not convert the best but a visitor is better than no visitor.

Kudos to you Jamie for “digging” at places no other domainers would
Most people want droplists etc. but the niche lists like this one are potential gold makers.
