I haven’t really heard the term "all the good ones are gone" much lately but maybe that is because people are starting to find the domain name aftermarket and the millions of domain names that are owned by somebody but many now know the fact that they can purchase a "pre-owned" domain name.

Add in the fact that domain names can and do expire and you have an aftermarket filled with millions of domain names. Now clearly not all these millions of domain names work for everybody but there are a lot of domains listed for sale. There are a mix of expired domain names and for sale by owner domain names but to give you an idea of the amount of domains for sale at some of the larger and more popular services, I grabbed some numbers and here how it lays out.

A mix of expired / expiring and some sellers domains:

SnapNames.com currently has 2,002,574 domain names listed with its service. This is a mix of buy it now, at auction and available soon domain names with some being listed by members. That is a lot of domain names!

GoDaddy.com currently states "Over 2 Million" domain names listed starting at $5. That tells me these are "expired" domains. GoDaddy also has "member" listed domain names but I couldn’t find an exact number but I’m sure it is a lot.

NameJet.com which mainly has expired domain names listed from its partner registrars like Network Solutions has 634,535 that are set to go to auction, with hundreds if not thousands currently at auction already any given day.

Pool.com has 3,447 domains listed for sale

Pending Delete domain names today, 70,000

Member Listed domain names

These clearly can have duplicate listings as many people list domain names for sale at several services.

Sedo.com is the largest by far and had stated on its site before redesign of 11 Million domain names listed.

Afternic.com currently has 2,763,187 with over 900,000 of those being Afternic owned domains.

Personal portfolios

Clearly a lot of domain name owners simply list their domain names on personal sites or simply take contacts via the whois system as well. To put it lightly, there are a lot of domain names listed for sale and by seeing some of these numbers it puts it a little more into perspective!
