The Unclaimed Money site MissingMoney.com is creating a buzz this morning due to it being on the Early Show. The one problem, a lot of people are searching to see if MissingMoney.com is safe or not?
So I did a little searching to see what I could find. Considering the Wall Street Journal is saying to use it, I would hope they have looked into it, but you can never assume. WSJ says to use either Unclaimed.org or MissingMoney.com to break it down by state.
So this is what I see:
According to Whois.sc MissingMoney.com is registered to ACS Unclaimed Property Clearinghouse. Privacy is attached to the domain but shows a Leon Howorth. Doing a search at NetworkSolutions.com attaches an email address to the domain name ACS-inc.com .
Doing a Whois search on acs-inc.com shows the registrant as Affiliated Computer Services Inc.
On Acsupch.com states that they are a "unit" of Affiliated Computer Services Inc.
A whois search on Acsupch.com reveals the name Leon Howorth again with the admin contact.
I would say the site is Real, but with anything online, it’s always best to be safe then sorry. I wouldn’t pay for anything that should be free but many unclaimed money sites charge a "finders fee". If the money is from the government, there is no reason you shouldn’t be able to access it free with a little work done by yourself.
Both MissingMoney.com and Unclaimed.org are memebers of NAUPA National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.
You may also visit NAST.org which is the National Association of State Treasurers
According to Compete.com, both MissingMoney.com and Unclaimed.org get a great deal of traffic. MissingMoney.com get’s nearly 500,000 visits monthly, with Unclaimed.org getting nearly 114,000 monthly visits.
